Shelley Strohl: I happen to know Ronaldo is doing very well in training at Doggy Boot Camp.

I take your remark to mean that you have been personally assigned the task of training, handling, and otherwise preparing Ronaldo to be crowned as Universal Sieger

I"ve seen Ronaldo, he's a nice dog.  I haven't seen his SS video.  But there were some other dogs that I have seen in real life and on the video.  Some of them look exactly like I remember them, but one or two really did not show as well as they could have.

For the most part i was pretty disappointed (to put it lightly) by what I saw, and the excuses were, just excuses.  Get out and prepare your dog, and if he's not prepared, he/she should not place very well.  Competitions are about what you or your dog does that day, not what it "could" do or what it "has" done.  If it stinks the place up, move to the back of the line, some other people did prepare their dogs and deserve a shot.  Overall though the majority of them need to improve... A lot.

It would be nice, if just this once, there really were several dogs in the running for Universal Sieger.  But, I frankly believe that 90% of the "declarations" were for advertising puppies and stud fees--the owners never had any intention of the dog actually entering a trial, much less a USA-sanctioned trial to obtain a 270 score and entering a USA regional championship.  These are the REQUIREMENTS for entering the USA National Championship, and I just don't see if for any  of the VA dogs.   Lord knows it would be beyond great, if one of them did make a legitimate run for the title.  But,  it appears to be mere hyperbole, to be charitable.

IS Ronaldo going to compete at all?   I never received a response to the question from either Randy, or the trainer involved (assuming that person is on this forum).   Is there an actual intention of trialing the dog at a USA trial and/or USA regional championship to obtain a 270 qualifying score?    Scores at a WDA trial don't count for the entry requirements, home field, or not.   If, in fact, Ronaldo makes a run for the title--Best   Wishes.   If this "declaration" was just BS, may he and his owner develope inflammation of the cojones.

Ouch, that would really be painful

All the show dog people whose entries did pathetic performances at the USA SS should take a lesson from 10 year old Ghandi Arlett:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JQzTj-YKZ8

It might not be what you expect from a WUSV top competitor, but it is PDG for a 10 year old show dog!!!

by hodie on 08 May 2008 - 21:05

PDG is what I say as well for a 10 year old male. If one looks carefully at this, vs so many of the SS males, one can see a lot of differences. For one, this dog wants the fight. Secondly, the judge actually moves! I will let others look too and make their own decision. If this was the level of work at our SS, there would be few complaints. So yes, Wanderer, I agree 100%. Thanks for pointing the video out.

I am a huge fan of Ghandi. Then again, I have a Ghandi daughter.

I am a great fan of Ursus for producing a genuine work ethic, drives, wonderful nerves, soundness--all wrapped into the most sociable, people-oriented dogs in the world.
