My brother-in-law is an ethnic Czech who spoke German as a young man. May be he was an ethnic German in the then Czechoslavic state.
Can he teach me german commands for a dog trained in German in Germany?
Are there many dialects in German?
Would he be able to talk to people in Germany today?
I should ask him but I want to know first (we only talk occasionally on holidays) .

There are several websites with the German commands with the proper pronunciations. I have even seen a website that played the command so that you could hear how it sounds.
Yes there are several different dialects in Germany and he would probably be able to talk to people in Germany today.
