  * * * * * PERMISSION TO CROSSPOST WIDELY * * * * *

 Hi Fellow board members. My dog Nemo has been entered into the Bissell Company's MVP contest (Most Valuable Pet). The grand prize is $10,000 donated to a pet cause of the winner's choice. Mr. Nemo was an important part in our lobbying efforts against AB1634 in California so of course if he wins, the prize will be donated to PetPac who was the prime reason the bill was stalled last year. However the bill is back yet again.  We have an opportunity here to raise people's awareness of PetPac's mission and hopefully garner some financial support as well.  This contest is a symbolic reminder, especially in this particular year, about the importance of one vote.      We affect change in our country through the political process. We do that not only by voting but by coming together as communities of like minded interests. PetPac is one such community - for the first time - a grassroots organization dedicated to protecting the rights of animals and their owners. For too long we were complacent, thinking pets were too popular and the animal rights groups could not possible get a foothold. We have learned and are learning more every day that we were wrong - that while we stuck our head in the sand, the AR interests in this country were gathering strength, money and most importantly political savy. On PetPac's Blog page back in July, I wrote a piece called Keeping Our Voices Heard, which I ask you to read since it is as important today as then. In that I urged us all to "start with one simple thing". We have a way today to start with that one simple thing. I ask you to place a symbolic vote by voting for Nemo in the Bissell contest. Let us tell the whole country that ALL of our pets are MVP's and finally, they and we have a voice to protect our rights.      Please go to this link http://www.bissell.com/redirect.asp?page_id=47201&Pet=1109 and enter your vote for Nemo and PetPac. Please vote now as voting is only open until April 22nd. If the link above does not work you can go to this page http://www.bissell.com/Page_id/47200/Locating_a_Specific_Pet.aspx  then select the letter N and click on the photo of Nemo Schafer Meister ( should be 5th photo down on the right).       Please pass on this message to as many folks as you can. If you do not want to copy and paste it, you can simply direct them to PetPac's blog where it has been posted as a diary entry. See http://blog.petpac.net/blog/story/2008/4/16/214616/771  .      Nemo and I thank you for your support and look forward to working with all of you in the future in support of our rights and freedoms. _____________________________________________________________________ We each must do what we can and speak from the heart with passion.
We CAN make a difference.
We can be a strong voice for ourselves and our dogs.
We need hearts and courage as strong as those of our dogs. Thank you for your help and hard work in this fight. &nb

Sorry folks, it seems Kari and I were posting at exactly the same time. Didn't mean to duplicate it. I unfortunately don't have the ability to post phots but perhaps someone could go to either the Bissell or PetPac link  and copy Nemo's photo over so board members can see it.

Nemo is a pituitary dwarf GSD ( a Lasso N son) that I have talked about before. His job is to take care of humans who need loving care. His sport is sheep herding ( thus the name on the Bissell site) because he really is a dynamo.  Some of you got to meet him this past weekend at the Sieger show.

Again sorry re the duplication. Please don't let it defer you from voting.  Thanks.

Blast! You have to become a member of their community in order to vote!

I'm always leery of joining commercial sites like this, in case I become a target for ad campaigns...

I was not a member of the community, I just entered my name and email address......?????

The whole thing smells like fish to me.  Sorry.   I'm still wondering what petpac does for pet owners.

Two Moon did you read the website? It is a political action committee lobbying against laws that take away the rights of pet owners.  Nothing fishy  I promise.  Just hard working people who care about our rights as Americans and pet owners.

My sister went to first link and voted, she did not have to join any community, she just did as I did and entered her name and email.

Well for those of you who do vote, thanks much!  Have a great night, Kari

I guess it's because I'm in Canada, then.  Your dog is a real cutie, Tig. I'll give it a couple more tries to see if I can find the page for voting.

Sunsilver, Thanks for trying and for the compliment re Nemo. He's a special little dog ( he'll do a bark and hold for an oven mitt). I think maybe the problem is the link got split between two lines above. I'll re-enter it and see if I can get it as one line and then you can give it a try. - Oh wait just read there rules and it IS limited to the residents of the 50 states so apparently they can block ISPs from outside the states.  Sorry.  Anyway for others in case there is a problem here is the link again.

Please also consider visiting the PetPac site in the future. While our focus right now is AB1634 in California we hope to grow into a national presence and will need volunteers, support and voices from all over to do that. If you have experience and/or ideas re fighting the HSUS national legislative agenda take the time and add to PetPac's blog and let others know what worked for you.

I didn't have to register to vote yesterday. Can one vote every day?

Bark and hold for an oven mitt? Love it!!!!
