I know this has been discussed previously numerous times and I have searched the messages to find some answers but I didn't find anything to this specific question. It appears that the AKC has recently started to require the original foreign registration and not a copy. I was wondering if anyone has ever requested a duplicate set of pink papers from the SV....as if the original had already been lost, which could then be used to send to the AKC. Since I have to contact the SV for the beschienigung already, do you think I could request a duplicate or is that a bad idea?

The AKC requires a photocopy of the registration, yet the original of the pedigree, which is one single document for SV dogs. Hence the confusion with the AKC sometimes. These requirements have not really changed. I have never had a problem sending just a copy. You can have a properly notorized copy made of all 4 pages of the SV papers and send that, the AKC has no reason to refuse a notorized copy, and it is far cheaper than an SV duplicate.

As to duplicates from the SV - you have to sign a legal declaration that the original has been lost or destroyed and explain how it was lost/destroyed. So declaring loss when there was none is indeed a bad idea. You can request that after the AKC has lost the original... ;o). Try the notorized copy first if the AKC gives you a headache.

I know that the AKC has changed their rules for foreign registrations...I have just talked to them in the past month and they say now that they require the original foreign registration...I'm not sure of the notoarized copy...I will check with them again to see if that can be done...I know that the SV only now requires a photo copy of the original registration to get the paperwork to send to AKC...

This is so interesting. I have just sent these papers off to akc, who were very adamant that in no way shape or form was I to send any ORIGINALS!!! They person gave me his first and ladt name and stated that he had been there 14 yrs and they were having so many problems with getting people thier originals and in some cases they were lost. This person practically begged me NOT to send original anything. So I will keep you all posted as to my progress.....or NOT!

Wow... The few times I've had to talk with AKC over the phone about this same issue made me realize that not all of their employees knew what they were doing. I would get two different stories from two different people!

Don't you love dealing with bureacracies??
