Saw this on another board. In recent weeks, a full grown mastiff and two cardigan Welsh corgis were stolen from their owner's locked vehicles, while the owners stopped for supper after a dog show! The thieves took both the dogs AND kennels!

Be on your guard! Don't leave your dogs unattended. Since I travel alone frequently, I try to park my vehicle where I can see it from the restaurant window. Either that, or do takeout...

The Corgi's were stolen in NJ.  Not too far from my home!  Scary I know!

in the eleven years i have lived in my neighborhood, i have had stolen a gsd/husky wolf pup (which actually looked pure gsd), an 8 month old gsd, a two year old gsd/lab?, a two month old siberian husky, a rott/lab/mal 6 week pup, and my lab/gsd/husky was 6 years old and the only one i got back. the first dog was out of a vehicle, another outside a local business, ditto the third one, the fourth was out of a vehicle, the fifth out of an ex-pen in my front yard with my pathetically friendly rottie i owned in there with them, just let the pup get stolen (was not hers), and bandit was outside another business. well needless to say i never leave dogs outside unsupervised anymore. i knew someone once that had a rott pup tied outside somewhere with a chain locked around her neck, someone managed to wiggle it off her head, and the owner found her with the people who stole her at a local bar that same night. they weren't holding onto her, he whistled and called her name, she came running, and they were outta there. someone else i gave a rott pup to, told me she came home once, she had forgot to lock the door, and rebel was gone. she never found him again. the local mentality around here is like a 2 year old's, if i see it, i want it, and it's mine. nothing is safe outside for even a minute. puppies and dogs come up missing out of their front yards constantly. some people are dumb and just let their cute little cavalier king charles spaniels run around and wonder why they turn up missing. my friend's prodigal daughter kidnapped her greyhound/lab out of the front yard and all my friend could do was run out the front door yelling as they drove away. she heard soon after that the dog was dead, but not how or why. bandit actually got stolen twice, the first person was a kid that obviously wanted reward money, as he called my number on the tag. witnesses reported he grabbed her collar and pulled her along with him outside of the place i went into, although he claimed he followed her home. my ex had a 2 week old rott mix pup stolen out of his van (mom was in there, they had someone go to the front to distract her while the other person went in back and grabbed a pup). witnesses told him where the pup was, and that it had been taken for dogfighting. so pet theft has been very high where i live. but yes, be careful.

My pups play in a pen outside my window, in sight of myself and at least one protective adult dog at all times. This year I am planning to put a second fence around the puppy play pen to contain a wary canine chaperone. God help anyone who tries to steal a puppy around here!
