Does any body out there have this problem?  Dryness on both sides of mouth - the lip folds seem cracked and dry.  Any suggestions for application of something would be helpful.  Something safe because he likes the vasaline off.  I believe it has to do with tennis ball chewing.  What do you think?  Thanks in advance.

Renz, stop the vasaline.  It has a drying effect believe it or not.  Use something else.  ecs

I stopped as of right now.  But you did not give me any information on what I could use.  I will do some more research.

DON;t use tennis balls please you'll ruin the enamel of the teeth!!!!. Use strong rubber squeezy balls.

If the lips are hanging too much on the side that is genetic. Just aside that is also a negative marking from the conformation point of view. Please don;t get me wrong I'm just making a statement here. The experts can comein.

cheers

Tennis balls are small enough to choke large breeds such as the GSD and Golden Retriever. I read about a guy who nearly lost his Golden that way. Fortunately, he was able to dislodge the ball once the dog went unconscious. When he took the dog to the vet to make sure it was okay, the vet told him he'd seen a lot of dogs die from choking on tennis balls. By the time he sees them, it's far too late to save them.

My dogs tear 'em to shreds within minutes, anyway, so I gave up on them long ago, even before I  knew this.

I also have a boy with lips that crack and dry.   He has extremely loose lips, that everything seems to adhere to, dirt, hair, leaves...........etc, that causes irritation for him.

I was wondering if Utter Butter would be safe to use on him?

a couple of my dogs have occasionally had this problem, bathing the lips with a chamomile infusion seems to help...

Thanks for the information.  I know all about enamel etc.  All tennis balls are put in a washed white tube sock and knotted .  He does not get any glue.

I have one Female that always gets  dry "crud" leaves, hairs, sand, stuck to her lips where they meet in the back. You can pull it off and it sometimes pulls off the delicate lip skin. What I keep around is a bottle of the liquid 100% Vitamin E oil. It's thick, it's sticks and stays on, and isn't tasty enough for them to lick off either. it works for us anyway  It's the 4000 IU 4 ounce bottle that I buy and it lasts for years and years and years and has other healing properties also. I use it on my scrapes and cuts also. Very affordable also if you buy it for Humans.

Wash your bowels and water buckets daily. Do Not Use Plastic Bowels.

Try some almond oil.
