Can you guys tell me what you think of these hips? This is my Malinois boy and the picture was taken about 3 weeks before he turned 1 Yr old. Sorry about the size, I can't get it smaller.

Looks to be about a FAIR to me...just my opinion though, for what it's worth.

Dysplastic on the right for sure. Most of the joint is right out of the socket. I think the left hip shows some remodelling of the ball joint, too, though otherwise it might rate as borderline.

I was afraid the hips were bad. He's already had a couple of days where has limped just a little bit, but he is always jumping on things.  We have a local Ortho Specialist who will rate x-rays, I will take these to him this coming week. Now I just have to battle with the breeder about getting the replacement. This dog was pick of the litter nad supposed to be Specials quality as well as a working dog. :-(

That's good that an ortho specialist can rate the hips for you.  As you will probably need that as proof for the breeder.  The limping may or may not be associated with the hips though.

Beautiful ... work on her turning to the left and this will improve her left. Her left (screen right) looks a tad bumb. Remember Milk does the body good. This is my opinion, opinions do vary. Don't forget to post the results @ 18 months. :o)~

Not sure of the protocal for the ideal hip on a Malinois.  If this were a GSD, my best guess  would be fair to good. I see nothing to be concerned about other than the sockets could be deeper, but the xray is not symetrical and a better one could get a better rating. Then again, Mals may not normally have as deep sockets as GSD's. I don't know. I'll be interested in hearing what that specialist has to say. Sure see no reason that a limp would be the result of HD and I doubt you'll be owned a replacement for that reason.

The Orthopedic Specialist said the hips look good with no signs of Hip Dysplasia. I'm suprised. So for now I'll go with his reading. I'll re-x-ray him at 18 months and see how they look then. Thank You to everyone who looked and gave me your opinions.

Sincerely,

Beth
