Being in western Washington you learn to deal with mud, lots of mud.    By this time of year the dogs yard is pretty much one big muddy mess.  I figure a muddy dog is better then a crate during the day when I'm at work, but then I come home to a muddy dog.    He seems to be fine with a rinse with the hose and a towel dry off every day when I get home.   At this point his "stand/stay" is solid!

How does everybody else deal with a muddy dog?

If you don't want to crate a dog, which I understand, why not get a covered run that is dry and clean?  You don't have to have concrete. There are many materials available that will help keep them clean.  The biggest thing is to have good drainage and a cover over the top.

I have three kennels already with rubber mats on the floors and covered.  Abe doesn't "do" kennels he climbs out.  I know I could put a top on one but the kennels are used by the girls and I don't want to build a fourth.  Abe likes his yard mud and all.

Yup, they are all used the stand stay, let's get dried off bit.  When they are really really muddy say after training in the mud.  I'll leave them in their crates overnight with towels and then the mud generally brushes off nicely.

animules, I have had mud out the wazoo and all I can do is put up with it.     They stay out and the pup gets thrown in the shower.   My house is a mess..lol

Yup, up to my eyeballs in it!

The young'un just HAD to check out the bathtub today while I was at work, so I have muddy dog footprints in the tub and on the bathroom tile floor as well as pretty much everywhere else. Thank God she didn't steal the soap this time!

If she's really bad, she gets crated until she dries, then I take her outside, and brush it off, then clean the crate.

My male doesn't get nearly as bad, because he's older, and doesn't run around like a mad thing the way she does.

I REALLY wish my kitchen floor wasn't white ceramic tile at this time of year!

This past fall we decided to put up kennels but the weather quickly turned for the worst and we had no time to do the floors so we had a hell of a mess all winter long.  Our house was newly built so the grass still had not come in too thick and it was just horrible.  The only thing I was able to do at least to keep the house clean was bring the dogs in around the front in the garage in their crates to dry and brush off the next day.  There were days it was pretty nasty though so I put a huge drop cloth painters use in the back of my SUV and took them to the PETCO to use their self serve bath house rather than bring the mud into my bathroom.  It was a pain but less work than cleaning the house. lol

What we did find helped a little was putting down the big chunks of the bark type mulch in the kennels.  It helped soak up the moisture and cut back on the amount of mud.  Out of my 3 dogs the only one that is smart enough to go inside the dog box when the weather gets ugly is my female.  The boys will lay in the mud.  Next few weeks I have someone coming to do the floors finally.  I soooo can't wait.
