GSDGenetics

by GSDGenetics on 15 February 2009 - 21:02

---

Hi Guys!

Did anyone notice any DDR GSD's on the dilute list?,

maybe I'm blind or something, I don't think I noticed any..

The reason there are no DDR dogs on the dilute list yet, is simply lack of research material from the DDR (before the DDR lines became mixed with Western lines).
I have long been searching for copies of the DDR studbooks and copies of DDR pedigrees.  If anyone wants to contribute photocopies of such material it will be much appreciated.

The same is also true of Czech, Hungarian, and other Eastern European/Russian GSD pedigrees and bloodlines, older pedigree data (before these lines became mixed with Western lines), and I haven't yet been fortunate enough to have anyone give me copies of studbook data from these countries

Hemophilia is a sex-linked disorder that USUALLY passes from mother to son and females arew usually only carriers. But, there are instances of females having the disorder, too. Rare, relatively, but it happens in dogs, as well as in humans. I actually grew up with a girl whose brother had hemophilia and she also was a bleeder--not as serious as her brother, but a shove between the shoulders was enough to start her bleeding profusely from her nose and mouth, as well as severe bruising from the point of contact.

Greetings I have just checked    With the RVC.
Bitches are carriers and there is no way they can test them.
ONly test availalable is for MALES

Yes Misbeeb, the pup died in January and as they didnot know why a post mortem was carried out, the vet informed them that she was a Heamophilliac after completing PM.

Well... thank you, Mystere and Pam!  I did not know that bitches could be affected, I have always thought they were just the carriers!

You see... this board is valuable!  Any idea of % of affected bitches?

by Wildmoor on 16 February 2009 - 20:02

This relates to humans not sure on dogs, I suppose many die at birth;

This is not the same for females, females have a 2/3 chance of not showing symptoms of haemophilia; being 1/3 chance that they'd be carriers but don't show any symptoms and 1/3 chance that they would not get infected with haemophilia and 1/3 chance that they'd have haemophilia and show symptoms of it.

I had no idea... remember when Canto lines were all scrutinised by breeders?  It was always the bitch lines we looked at!

And remember (off topic, but reating) the significance of the disorder in human history, specifically the last Imperial Family of Russia. What would have been different in the world had the tsarevich NOT been a hemophiliac?
