Who is the best GSD breeder out there?
by Preston on 03 April 2008 - 23:04
Robert, why do you persist in this? You must want full disclosure here and on about 25 other dog related forums, including a big announcement on Ed Frawley's site, just for starters.

Sorry, no Robert here?

To give an honest answer to what may or may not be a serious question- there is no "best". Why? Because the "best" dog for me might not be the "best" dog for you. The "best" dog for sport might be something else under a different handler...the "best" dog for show might be half a ring back under a different judge. The "best" contract for one person's needs might not suit another. Perhaps if you listed what you are looking for, someone here would be kind enough to point you to a good match.

End this one right now...this is a provoking thread and will not lead to any good.......sorry we dont have best Breeders here...
We can give you names of breeders that we have used and recommend to do business with by our expeeriences with them...but lets not fall for this BEST BREEDERS thing...
THat is determined at a USA SChutzhund Sieger Show by the Judges and awarded to Kennels that win mutliple divisions and many top dogs in the season at hand....not on a database...

I see somebody likes to stir it up... Well as a breeder I can say only this, the best breeder is one breeding for Health then working ability and drives. I agree with KCzaja ,way to go! We believe the dog has to be healthy and genetically strong. There are so many issues with the German Shepherds regarding health issues that a good breeder should pay a lot of attention on the breed and the issues with health, hips, elbow, eyes, and other genetic defects. There is no reason to sacrifice drives for health when there are strong dogs out there with good genetically strong health records ( hips and elbows) not only that, but build, eyes, and overall health. Second, working abilities and drives. Drives in and of themselves are useless if built upon a faulty frame. The thing is to combine the two, then you have a real German Shepherd and not a wanna be. I do not get on this site much and send messages, but as a professional breeder of working line Shepherds I thought I might tag in. No BS, the German Shepherd is not perfect, but no breed is, but sound breeding and true attention to the breed is a must to a true breeder of the German Shepherd dog. We didn't just pick pedigrees and away we go. There is a lot of research in health, line breeding, working ability, research with our friends in Europe, and personal testing of the dogs. There is knowing the dogs personally and knowing the trainers who trained the dogs...not just now, but twenty years ago when the dogs were working. This is important because it gives insight into the puppies that are bred today, especially the strong line bred puppies.
Also...There is knowing what it is to have a dog save your life...not once but several times for real on the street and real life. There is knowing what a true German Shepherd is, the essential drives and abilties that are looked for and wanting to breed upon strong lines. There is training and experience. There is real life experience...trusted and true. There is line-breeding. There is out-crossing. There is the real German Shepherd and there is no exception...a dog that has it all. Scores are one thing and life is another. No offense, but it is true. When talking about scores, there are to many variables included in that . KCzaja Did a good job of explainining it. I am talking about the dog and the breed...what is right and what is wrong. What is a real dog? This is a much debated issue. What works is health and then drives., then ..training and life experiences of the dog. What else works and what doesn't work beyond that is anyones guess.

Jurisprudence ... Great question ! GSD Working line (sport) should be a tie between Mohnwiese, Salztalblick and Tiekerhook. GSD Showline - look at the breeders from Quenn (VA2) and Vegas (VA4) - consistent to the standard.

Tiekerhook without a doubt
