high all...

Im torn on a decision....my brother called me last week, says he is doing some work for a man that has a GSD he wants to give away. seems they got a new pit bull and the GSD is now to much for them to handle....he is a five year old male, neutered, and they say his parents were imported from belgium... they have all the papers on the dog and say he is mine if i want him.

my problem is that i dont know how boss will accept me bringing in another male... also i plan to start working soon and i dont know how much time i would have for another GSD...

the good thing is , i do have enough room for another...

what would you do?

try introducing them first see what happens.

is he health tested hips etc.?

is boss neutered?

find out as much as you can .

i would be suspicious of a free gsd

what do they mean by too much to handle?

no, boss is not neutered...

BTW yall...BOSS's  b-day was yesterday....1 years old !!!...time flies doesn't it...

is he health tested hips etc.?<<<<  i dont know...ill have to ask about that one....

what do they mean by too much to handle?<<<<<im not sure about that either, from what i understand the dog just has to much energy..(for them)...he needs someone that can- or will- spend more time playing with him...

I personally wouldn't do it.

The dog is 5 yrs old and this guy wants to get rid of it because he got a new dog?  He says it is too much to handle?  If he was too much, wouldn't he have figured that out before he bought the APBT?  Sounds to me like the guy is pawning his garbage.  What type of guy gets rid of his 5 yr old and keeps the new dog, unless the 5 yr old is a piece of shit, has health problems or the dog wasn't bad ass enough, so he went out and bought a Pitbull.

Why do you want another dog?  You do realize that it would really be for you.  Boss would rather have you all to himself and not have to worry about his attention being cut in half.

1male + 1male = 2 unhappy males and one male pissing all over everything.

You just started training with Boss and it seems like you are learning alot.  Do you want to hinder that?  I would concentrate on Boss and learn all that you can.  When he is more trained and you have more time for another dog, by all means!

1male = 2+ piles of shit/day

2 males = 4+ piles of shit/day

2 males = double the heartworm, flea and tick preventative, vaccinations, food, toys, and time.

2 males = twice as much grooming to control the hair.

2 males = a shitload of hair all over everything you own.

other than that, I say

if they do not have time for the one they have, why did they get another one? No time put into a pitt bull, they think it will not be a handle full also?

I would take both dogs to a nuetral place and walk them, they see if they could play together. if there is no female on your horizon, it may work. Is your current dog friendly to other rmales?

I agree with Don.  This is not an ideal situation for you and Boss.  Also if you are going back to work, you will need all your free time for working young Boss.

i think don corleone has pretty much covered it. also, what does your husband think about it? stick with boss - you're doing all kinds of good things with him. happy bd to him yesterday.

my advice to you hun is dont do it!!!!!

you are probably better going to a rescue center and getting a new dog ....i dont know but somthing tells me its a bit suspicious

I know everyone situration is different but from what you have stated MPO is not too. With you going back to work time will get even shorter with Boss. You will have two dogs without supervision and twice the damage. Not to forget the cost of two dogs plus if they fight the vet bills.

And  if you have to place him again that will be his third home. I would try to find him a forever home with someone that will have the extra time he will need. Plus Boss will be happy too - not sharing you :)

Happy Birthday Boss

again MPO

yea, I wouldn't do it either.  Why don't they get rid of the new dog and not the dog they've had five years.  Something fishy there.
