I think it might.  I wanted to purchase a padded harness vest for a service dog.  They only sell sizes medium and large, and say they do custom, fit to size, work of the same vest.  The only modification needed was to shorten the chest strap.  They couldn't do it if more than an inch.  A shoe repair person can cut off the strap and resew it shorter, but I thought it would be less trouble if they could do it.

So, they said they could do custom work.  They said the whole vest would need to be cut down in size.  I told them the rest of the vest fit perfectly as I had tried on another person's vest and I did not want to loose inches on the vest.  They couldn't tell me what the measurements of the new vest would be until they cut the fabric and I'd have to pay for that.  Doesn't one usually have measurements or a pattern before cutting out fabric?  I inquired if they could make a paper pattern and measure it.  They didn't have time to make a prototype.  Duh, math, basic sewing skills, measurements?  They said they were sorry they couldn't meet my needs to to look else where for service.  Well, they got that one right at least.  The sales person was very pleasant on the phone, but her custom designer couldn't do the math.

The vest they sold and is being worn by a standard poodle service dog and tried on by my golden retriever service dog did not fit well through the chest on both dogs.  It was 4 inches too long from the center of my dog's chest to the girth even though the girth measurement fit and met their published breed/sizing.

Dogwise was very prompt in emailing me, HAD MEASUREMENTS AVAILABLE, does custom work, and called me.

this grabbed my attention as i currently have the large padded harness vest for my gsd sdit, spunky. she just barely grew into it and i have been considering getting another one or the s&r style vest which one of my friends has, for our standard poodle puppy, who is in training as an autism dog for my daughter. i e-mailed amy at activedogs.com asking what size she thinks i should get, and she e-mailed back that i should send back the measurements, which i have not, since fluffy is 6 months old and i expect her to do some more growing. i am anticipating her to be a half inch taller and 10 pounds lighter than spunky, according to how big fluffy's parents are. what size is your friend's standard poodle wearing? just curious.
