One of my bitches has east west feet (front feet turn outwards)

What is this caused by? Is it genetic?

I dont think affects her at all,  but someone said that it is a major fault is this true?

Thanks in advance.

One of mine has it too.  Her mom is a bit easty westy too.  And no it does not affect them at all.

Depends on how extreme it is, but it is very common as are cow hocks.  East west forefeet show up more in action than cow hocks do so it probably results in more jarring than correct front feet, but overall, I doubt the dog notices much.  As far as the show ring is concerned, east west forefeet and cow hocks are so common I doubt if judges even notice it any more.

I think it depends on how bad it is. I got this off rip off report.com and don't want to post the kennel they were referring to, so will just copy/paste what is going on with their dog. They had several pictures and the pup was pretty extreme.         "Magnum has a very pronounced east-west (or Frenchy) front foot posture. This condition is described in detail in the book "The German Shepherd Today 3rd Edition" on Pages 408-409. This is causing him to stand incorrectly as can be seen in both his photos and the description in the book. Moreover, he cannot run like a normal puppy at 6 months. He has no "gait" whatsoever and is constantly out of breath because of the pressure his inverted stance (elbows tucked into his chest) is putting on his lungs. In fact, he will not run at all most of the time because it hurts him to do so."

no, my girl definitely does not have any trouble running that's for sure!

that poor pup is probably very much like a basset hound in the that respect, some of those are extreme in the easty westy department!

Trailrider, can you post the URL of this report from ripoffreport.com? The article mentions photos.

You can post pretty long phrases in google -- it looks like the owner has spent a lot of time and energy posting bad things on the Web about Omega shepherds.

I am not sure this poor dogs problem is his feet (I have seen worst East West in the feet than this) as is his shallow shallow rib cage.

It amazes me that folks who don't bother use titled breeding stock (all the titles referenced are for the grandparents though two of their stud dogs are "schutzhund titled") can get $2500 for a puppy!   But these folks look like they did not do their reserach or they would have known that.

I wonder if this is one of those males who got neutered at a young age and never had adequate chest development?

wow, I doubt that the dog's problem is the easty west feet either!

East  to west feet are very common in my country. Every other showline gsd has it. Most of the dogs shown are cow hocked and have east to west feet. My bitch although beautiful, also has east to west feet. But she is not cow hocked. She is also the granddaughter of esko vom danischen hof and dux de cuatro flores. A bitch from such a good bloodline also has east to west feet!
