GARDs thread got me to thinking.  Those of you who breed your dogs, what do you require to determine which dogs of yours should be bred?  Do you title and breed survey all your dogs before breeding?   If you don't breed survey do you title your dogs in a different sport?  If you don't title, are your dogs working police dogs or working SAR dogs?  If you don't do any of these things what do you use to determine which of your dogs should be bred, what is your "measuring stick" if you will?  Just as GARD  wanted people to post their training experience along with titles earned, I'm thinking this may help people determine who's advise to use when it comes to breeding.

Sue

I don't know if this counts.  I don't have a PHD, but I'm well endowed.    I have a mediocre pedigree mixed with working and non-working lineage.  I've produced 50% males and obviously 50% females.  No long hairs, missing testicles, or hip problems to date(check back on the hips in 70 yrs).  Good pigments, but too much sun will burn.

I am neutered now but before the surgery, I had a poor success rate.  I had multiple breedings and only had two litters.  Perhaps the protection had a little to do with it.

Both breedings were to the same bitch.  She is a good working example.  Not too many titles but a nasty bitch.  Real aggressive with courage pronounced.  Social, but nasty as they come when provoked.   Has a bit of a handler aggression problem, but have not seen this in the offspring.

We held back 100% of the offspring.  I think we will continue to keep them unless someone makes a reasonable offer.  Package deals for the two offspring and the bitch.
