Since there is a topic already on why pups are sold on limited registrations I thought this would be a good post to go along with it.
OK, so you ave sold a pup to somone with limited registration. You stated your qualifications in writing to the new owner as to what must be accomplished for the Limited Reg. to be lifted. Now how do you insure that it WILL be lifted when those criteria have been met? I ask this because as the saying goes "time and unforseen occurences befall all men (&women). So if the unfortunate happened and you as the breeder passed away prior to the criteria having been what have you done to insure that the limited registration can still be lifted?

if the paperwork is not signed and filled out by the breeder, in the event of the breeder's death then the person handling the breeders' affairs (attorney, next of kin etc) would be authorized to sign the paperwork with notification to AKC. This is a question asked once in a while, and it is a good question. Good enough that I started printing out the applications for full registration for all "working quality puppies" ie puppies in working homes where they may be titled and whose owners may want to breed them. I fill out and sign the applications, and put them in a folder where they could be found and turned over to the dog owners requesting them, if that becomes necessary.

Thanks Molly. I know that is what some breeders do. I thought it might be a good thought to put into the breeders minds. (because we all know we could die, we just never think it's going to be any time soon) I think that is why some people are hesitant on L/R.

I have a question What if AKC does not lift the restriction? then what?
by eichenluft on 26 March 2008 - 20:03
akc will change the registration from limited to full, with the application (available on the AKC website) and breeders' signature on it. There should not be a problem. Yes, there may be a problem getting the full registration if the breeder is no longer available (death, jail etc) and no application has been signed.
