I recieved this in a pm last night and I thought I would share with everyone, this so touched my heart!
I named him Tank because he had this incredible drive. If it moved he went after it. And, as a puppy, his feet and head were massive. So much so that every time he charged through the house somthing was going to get broken, (count on it). I used to say that he rumbled through the house like a "Sherman Tank". Time went on and we trained for patrol work. Through the next seven years, Tank racked up nearly 500 felony arrests/drug seizures, successfully located 20 missing persons including 3 small children. On one call, we were searching the outside of a building for a burglar who had just fled on foot. As we turned a corner, Tank dove into a bush and pulled the suspect out. The bad guy had a firearm in his hand and Tank latched onto that hand stopping him from shooting me. Later, the suspect told investigators that he intended on shooting me to make his escape. Tank saved my life that day, and would repeat this several more times. We participated in countless community activities and became a favorite at a local elderly assisted living home. I subsequently changed departments and had gotten out of the K-9 division and Tank was semi-retired. Even though semi-retired we still trained with different K-9 units around our area. In May of 2007, we were training and Tank acted like his right hip was bothering him. I took him to the vet and the X-rays discovered that he had massive tumors in all of his major organs, spine, and hipps.
He was in pain and the only treatment was chymo. We decided that the best course of action was to euthanize. The vet took him back to a room, but Tank wouldnt let him get close. I took him back and held him in my arms while the vet gave him the shot. I told Tank that I was sorry, that he was my best friend and that everything was ok. I could tell that he was so scared. But, I held him. I thanked him for being my friend. I thanked him for greeting me at the door when I came home. I told him I was sorry that I couldnt save his life like he did mine so many times befor. In 22 years of Law Enforcement, this is the singular hardest thing I have ever done. I was a wreck.
Well as in all things time passed. I local GSD breeder heard about Tank and offered the pick of her latest litter FREE. I had not intended on getting another dog much less a new partner, but I went to the breeders home and looked at and tested to puppies. One stood out, he has fire and life. He has impressive drive and even came at me like "I owe him money".
Now my new partner K-9 Sabre is 9 months old, he is "jam-up" on his obiedence and has started Search training. I truely believe that this is "Devine doggy intervention".

1doggie2, This is coming from a person who I thought at the time was buying one of my puppies for a pet, I did not know until last night that he was a k9 officer! I just don't know what to think! I emailed him back and thanked him for loving and taking care of one of my puppies!
