As I have mentioned before I am involved with the Berger Blanc Suisse - which is an FCI provisionally registered breed - but not an AKC breed.  I have a papered female whom I imported from Holland last year - and should she pass all her health clearances I would like to take her to a titled male.  However - the only titled males are in Europe - so we're going to be hopping on a plane a year and a half from now for a vacation (I hope).

And here's my problem (and I would ask the members of the WS board but...it's...well....dead).  The three males I would really like to take her too are FCI papred and SchH titled - one through Austria and two through the VDH.  Ruby has RvB (Holland) papers.  However - she isnt registered with any FCI recognized body in the States because there isnt one.  I would really like for the puppies to be FCI registered - mainly because I'd like to keep my lines registered with the FCI.

Do any of you know if there is a way to register a pup that is out of FCI parents, but concieved in the states, and owned by an American with one of the FCI recognized clubs?  Is it possible?  Is there any way to become an FCI affiliated kennel without being in an FCI country?

I'm sorry if this all sounds very silly - and I do register with the UKC and the WS clubs here - however - I'd like to keep the FCI paperwork on them because if the breed is ever recognized in the US (Fat chance but one can always hope) I can keep my lines - especially since I plan on putting alot of blood, sweat, and tears into building a solid working line - that would be a heart breaker to loose that because I'm in the wrong country.

Thank you all very much for your help in advance :)

Cate, the F.C.I. recognizes the A.K.C. but of course the AKC does not recognize the white German Shepherd dog-a bit of a Catch 22 I must say.

I have seen the FCI pedigrees for dogs born in South America and Central America. I presume that if one is a member of the F.C.I. and has dogs pedigreed by same, that one can obtain pedigrees for the progeny. But, I am assuming a lot and do not know any facts.

I would start by making contact directly with the F.C.I. at this link: http://www.fci.be/home.asp?lang=en . I think that you can become an F.C.I.-recognized kennel, and perhaps that is all that you must do. You can find telephone numbers at this link: http://www.fci.be/aboutus.asp?lang=en&sel=4 and since it is Belgium there is no doubt that someone there speaks at least passable English language. Just dial "011" and then the telephone number.

I am the blind man who is trying to show you where and how to go, and surely someone here has dealt before with this matter. Is there not a white German Shepherd Dog club stateside? I think there is, and perhaps they have a webpage that will provide some useful links.

Best Regards,

There is - but as they're still German Shepherds in the US - none of them are FCI affiliated.  As far as the clubs - we're confused - about half the breeders are gunning to get the white re-accepted by the GSDCA, and about half dont think that's ever going to happen and are trying to seperate.  I believe some members of our clubs (I am a member of the pro-seperatist club) have tried to become FCI affiliated, but the general idea that I get is that they'll only accept AKC clubs - and the AKC wont recognize us because most of our dogs (with the exception of  three imports) are AKC GSDs.

The thing that worries me is I am under the impression that they wont register the progeny unless they are in a FCI member country (not an affiliate)...I am not 100% sure of that though - which is why I am trying to see if there is another answer.

I've tried to contact a couple of the kennel clubs (the Italian and swiss ones most specifically because I spend most of my time in those two countries when I am in Europe...and I am very nearly an Italian Citizen).  I havent gotten a response from either...though I imagine that might be partly due to my less than fantastic french.  I havent tried getting directly in contact with the FCI - though I will try that - thank you for the links :)

Get a 4 generation pedigree from the AKC.  I am assuming here that her papers can be transferred.  Get OFA hips and elbows done, DNA you can do in Europe under FCI.  That should do it for you.  I would contact AKC first and if you don't get anywhere move onto the F.C.I.  The SchH titles/herding titles are not acknowledged as of yet by AKC so this will not come up in your pedigree.

I have seen your dog on another forum and as you know love her.  Good luck and many good wishes.  I recently sent Ruby some greetings from Leo in Germany.  Hope you come back and take a look.

They can't be - the white shepherds in Europe aren't registered as German Shepherds at all - and havent been for several years - they are all registred (at least with the FCI) as White Swiss Shepherd Dogs - lol - I tried tthe AKC avenue too - I have a nice little letter in my Ruby binder saying "so sorry, but no."

I think it works out just as well - if we can make an arrangement with the FCI and start registering the three generation whites as BBSs - then we might be able to force ourselves through the FSS - but the first step is getting that FCI pedigree - and at least for me - that is the most important because I am more interested in following the FCI standard and the WS standard because for the most part they guard against extremes.

You can become a member of an canine association in European country and through them you can register you kennel with FCI. Is that feasible for you?
