I work at a pet store and was overhearing some men talking about Schutzhund and one of the guys said that one individual blew it as he didn't give his dog the proper verbal command.
I am curious, what is the verbal command for a bark and hold?
Thanks

During training for the hold and bark you will hear the term "VORAN" which loosely mean go on is used. The dog will go to the helper and begin the bark and hold. During the actual trial the dog has to search for the helper through 6 different blinds. So the term "REVIER" (meaning hunt) is used and when the dog gets to the blind with the helper he is to go into the H/B immediately. So I don't know which scenario he was speaking of. Also there are no set rules as to what words or commands you must use with your dog. The ones mentioned are German but you can use any language or terms you choose.

At my old club we use the command Revier for a hold and bark. For the send out it is usually Vorous. For the blind search it is also Revier OR Voran for the search.Good luck and happy Easter weekend

Hi Gaby, there isn't a particular word, it's whatever you want to use, you can use spaghetti if you want! HOWEVER, you must use the same command for the same excercise. People used to tell their dog Revere to search blinds 1-5 and on the way to 6 use a different command such as Voran, but you can't do that anymore.
I don't know a judge that would take any major points in a trial for it though if any, maybe make a comment, unless it was a national event. Not sure what the guys in the pet store were reffering to, there are only 5 points in the blind search.
Usually by the time a dog is ready to trial, the motions are what the dog goes through, I think I could go to the end of the field and tell Sasha "spaghetti" and point to the blinds and she would run without even looking at me as if I were crazy!
I have new folks at my club ask often what word to use, and I tell them it is a matter of preference. I use Voran because I think Revere and HERE! sound too similar to each other used in the same excercise, Vorous sounds similar to Voran, but is in a totally different situation in a different phase, so I have not ever noticed the two of them being mixed up!
Hope that helps to answer your question! ~Kari

I had used Revier initially but switched it to Voran when we started added multiple blinds. My "Revier" sounded way too much like my "hier" hence confusing my poor dog. Without hearing the context of the conversation I cannot say, what exactly happened there.
