e.g. SAR, police, forces, custom dog etc are they required to have any working titles or will these be gained during their specific 'on the job' training?

These dogs are usually "green" dogs when picked for customs, police, military, etc.  They are often young untitled dogs, that they handler or trainer will evaluate for the proper working traits and temperment.  They will then go into a training program, such as a police k-9 school, before they get any "on the job" training.  These dogs are then certified in their current job whether it is patrol, narcotics, EOD.  The dogs will continue to train  once they are certified and usually re-certify every year or two depending on the standards for the type of work the dog is doing.  Titled dogs are occasionally used, but often these dogs are more expensive and many trainers would rather start from scratch.
