Link to a news story about 800 dogs and 82 parrots living in a triple wide trailer home, and most in decent condition? This elderly couple must have been working their butts off, but it is a sad situation for many (actually all).
Some people are "collectors" with good intentions, and some are "collectors" with money intentions and when they don't sell, get overwhelmed. Some just have mental problems, but is it possible that both parties of a couple have the same mental problems?

Something doesn't pass the smell test on this case. If you go to the article and look at the dogs, they all look well fleshed and clean. Not only that, the Chihuahuas in particular look like pretty decent examples of the breed (for anklebiters). There is a photo of a woman (shelter worker?) in the run with a bunch of them. I don't see any barking neurotically at her, nor cowering.
In the article, journalist makes mention the elderly owners were "hoarders", then in the same sentence states a woman had gone to buy a pup, decided she didn't like the setup, and called in animal control.
Beware of animal rightists. Someone stands to make a bundle off the adoption of a bunch of toy dogs, especially the puppies.

This is very usual story for the Phoenix/Tuscon area. Everyone goes nuts because someone has many dogs or cats; they all get taken away; the people arrested and every one they show on the news looks very very healthy. Every breeder at least here should be shocked and worried as the local counties are out of control on these issues and cry "foul" in every instance and then show you the pictures of these healthy poor lost souls.
Did these people likely have to many? probably. Were they taken care of? obviously. My favorite is the girl who bought one the day before they were raided and its looks extremely healthy but oh gosh it may have worms and possibly kennel cough. Wow really a puppy with worms???? Guess that doesnt ever happen in the fantasy world some people live in.

I thought the dogs were clean & healthy looking, seems like they just bit off more than they
could chew, I don't think you could collect that many GSD's in a trailer, but those little dogs
are so tiny, I'd be afraid of accidently stepping on one!
Now the Parrots, that had to be pretty loud!

I brought this story up when it first came on the news here. GSD4 you could not be more wrong. I came across a woman at the park who was commenting on my male. She volunteers at the shelter where these dogs are. The dogs you see in the pictures are the ones that were not in the care of the vets. There were many who were missing paws because they got gangrene from infection after walking in the dog and bird feces that layered EVERYTHING. Giardia and Parvo were rampant and not only the puppies had worms, they were shared around and around because of the aforementioned layer of feces. Many of the litters were in unprotected cages and believe me the winters in Tucson are not mild enough for that.
To try to minimize this situation is ridiculous. Fire off an email to the shelter and ask THEM how exaggerated this story is. These pups were "obviously" well taken care of? Good grief. Why would you make such statements from pictures of a few?
