This is a picture of a red rubber ball. It's Marcus's absolute favourite
toy. He carries it everywhere, he sleeps with it, he chews on it, he
drops it in his dish while he eats. Nothing else will do. Nothing. We
spent the entire Saturday going from pet store to pet store looking for
this ball. Nothing. We checked many, many Websites. Nothing.

We must find this toy. Marcus, by virtue of his age (13), spends a whole lot
of time at rest. Entertainment these days comes to him via this ball. He
chews himself to sleep on it, he brings it to us for a gentle game of
Fetch, it's the one article he wants to use in Find It. It must be this
ball.

We bought three others this weekend, similar in size and shape. He was
polite enough to take them in his mouth, then dropped them somewhere,
looked at us with those wise old GSD eyes as if saying, 'Thanks, but
they won't do.' Then he laid down with his head on his paws and sighed.
He's happy enough to play outside with any old ball or a Frisbee or a
rope toy but his gratification comes from THIS ONE BALL.

Not the molecuball. Not a Kong. Not a Holee-Roller. THIS ball.

So we come to you in deepest desperation. Can you help us find it?

The second link shows the ball on the second page of the "dog toys and frisbees" link.

Hope that helps.

They're all good and worthy balls, Fiona, but none of them is THE ball and that's the only one which will do. We've tried to offer him others, have stuffed them with cheese and coated them with PB and while they're fine for the moment, they're just not right. In his dotage Marcus is sort of like a toddler with his blankie. Must be THIS blankie, you know?

Domenic, if it's the right ball that you think you may have seen we'll crown you King of Balls - at the very least we'll give you 100 pts in tracking  :)

If you want to see Marcus when he was still well and active, here's a picture from his last HGH trial in 2004. We retired him after this one due to a shoulder injury.

And the ball again:

Thank you so much for your help!

What is this made of?

by Aqua on 11 March 2008 - 19:03

It's made of rubber very similar to the red Kongs. Because of the four holes it sort of squishes together when a GSD bites down on it with his molars and seems to have an almost hypnotic effect on him. He used to love his red Kongs until we brought these red balls home. Since then, Kongs are history. It has got to be this specific ball.

If the dog weren't so ancient, if he didn't have CRF with a limited life expectancy, we wouldn't be so adamant at trying to find him one more ball. But things are what they are and at this point we just want to make him happy.

The photo, BTW, was very skillfully pieced together in PhotoShop by my husband. The current ball is only about 1/2 its original size and no longer safe for the dog to be chewing on it.

Shannon, if you find one PLEASE share your source. We'll do the same.

Aqua,i went to one place and it was NOT the same it is much bigger.I will shower and eat and then i will take a ride to another place that might have it.I know i saw that ball. One quick question,is it the same almost as a tennis ball size OR is it a bit bigger?Just let me know that before i go back out.

by Aqua on 11 March 2008 - 23:03

It's tennis ball size. There's a ball called the Omega Tricky Treat. That's NOT what we're looking for. Thanks tons, Domenic!

I saw the title to this thread and thought you were searching for a missing testicle. lol

The toy ball looks like something my dogs would like, it looks like it would bounce in fun directions for the dog.
