I'm new to this board and wanted to say hello. I have to admit, I've been lurking for awhile, as I research the purchase of a new GSD pup. The information available on the internet is daunting and I'm somewhat overwhelmed with narrowing down a breeder.
My family currently owns an 8 yr old male, Zeus, who was purchased from a breeder back in 1999. He is an Ory vd Zollerblunt pup and has been a wonderful family companion. His sister, Ica, recently pased from bloat and we've finally decided to get another female to round out our family. I have two children, ages 10 and 12, who were still in diapers when our first pups came home, so they're beside themselves with excitement at the prospect of getting a new dog.
I look forward to getting to know you.

Thanks for the welcome. I want to get feedback on the breeders we're looking at, but notice that just outright posting names, etc. isn't really acceptable.
With that said, can I solicit from others names of breeders in SoCal they've heard of and would suggest? I'm looking for a family companion, first and foremost, with a plan to go beyond basic obedience. I don't want an American-line dog and don't know enough (yet) about the working lines to know if our family (inlcuding our 8 yr male) could handle the drive....I'd love to do ScH work, but the club in my area has not gotten rave reviews from people who have shared their opinions with me, so another challenge is finding a reputable trainer/club to work with once the pup is old enough to do so.
Thanks again.

I am in Nor Cal. Looks as though you know a bit about what you want and might do. Shold be easy enough to narrow down a few breeders to look at. The type of dog you are looking for will also be easy as you are not looking for one extreme or another, just a pet with solid nerves. Good luck. Now that you have said what you are looking for I'm sure others will PM you. Also feel free to PM other posters to ask about clubs or breeders. As you have noticed, some things aren't best when asked right out on the board. LOL Again good luck and have fun on the board. I hope you find what you are looking for and learn a few things along the way.
