For those who don't understand my question. I want to know why the helper at the USA Nationals will try to chase my dog. Yet the very same helper will feed the dog the sleeve at the Sieger show. If there is is one German Shepherd (German Bred), why is there a different criteria for testing working vs show?

Can anyone comment on the trial helper that injured several dogs in a trial (East Coast ?) in the last year or 2...
He broke sternum of one dog, & stepped on feet of others & other mishaps. Several dogs, were injured at this trial.
Malicious? Inexperienced?
Should have been pulled after 1st go around, imo. Curious if anyone knows more..

A very good question, and one I am sure we will never get a solid answer for.
I will venture to say that the SS is a pagent of beauty, whereas at the Nationals, it is a test of character, temperament, courage, and nerves. Plus, based on the recent SS we are seeing a trend where they are applying a bit more pressure and dogs who were granted "immunity" for their lovely gaiting, are now having to demonstrate at least some correct working ability. The performance "test" in a SS will never be a true measure of any dog's working ability. Because if the dogs were truly tested, there would not be very many entries, and that means very little money.

aero993 I'd like to comment but it will just go round and round like it always does.
The truth is they're just not the same.

i DONT KNOW THE ANSWER TO Y OUR QUESTION BUT THE MORE THREADS ABOUT NATIONALS AND TRIALS HERE IN USA GET WORSE AND WORSE...THE QUESTIONABLE PROCEEDURES ARE .MOUNTING ....MAYBE THEY ARE BOUNTIFUL AND SOME NOT TRUE...BUT I DONT LIKE THE SOUND OF SOME OF THE RUMORS....MAYBE SOMEONE WHO WAS AT NATIONALS CAN COMMENT..AND LEND A VOICE ON THIS ....
i KNOW THE WORKING DOGS AND THE SIEGER SHOW TRIAL ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT IN AIRE....BUT A LOT OF BLOODLINES THAT ARE NOT HARD WLINES HAVE A VERY GOOD SCORE AND ARE TOP SCORING IN TRIAL AND NEED NOT BE DESCRIMINATED AGAINST....AS WE KNOW THAT WILL ALWAYS BE DONE......

like the answer or not it has too do with money. showlines are worth more(to some people), and people dont want their expensive animals getting hurt.
could you imagine if they instituted a full sch3 routine before your dog/bitch was let into the working class ring?

mY WORKING DOGS HURT ME THE'RE TOO TOUGH TO GET HURT ,,,,,JUST KIDDING.....A WRONG CATCH OR A WRONG MOVE FROM A HELPER CAN RUIN A DOG...BUT AT TRIALS, LIKE NATIONALS THEY USE CERTIFIED HELPERS .......
DONT THEY?

Even the best helper can make a mistake.

uglydog, was this a local trial or a regional/national event?
its the chance you take every time you walk on the field with your dog. it could be anyday training or the world championship, accidents happen.
now if it happens multiple times by the same person, i would say they need to change helpers. it is my understanding that a judge can request a new helper, and if one is not available, cancel a trial.

I believe UglyDog is referring to the FMBB world championships held in France last year.
It was ugly. The world champ from the previous year got his leg broken and was retired.
