Has anyone had experience with the sedative telazol? I'm about to xray my dog for OFA and this is what the vet is using. They say it's a"mild sedative."
Thanks!

telazol is also reversible which makes it a very popular choice because once the minor surgical procedure is complete, or x-rays taken, they can give bring the dog back around so he begins his recovery more quickly, stabilizing blood pressure, heartbeat and lowering stress

We use Domitor/Torbugesic which works rather well. Domitor is reversible as well. Domitor can be given IV or IM, IV they are out within seconds, but in most cases we give it IM. It can be reversed IV or IM as well. Domitor is also very safe and we use it on a regular basis on dogs and cats. The Torb gives some added relaxation and comfort during the xray.
We have used Telazol in the past, but personally I did not like it. Maybe just because we were not used to it. But prefer Domitor for something like an xray or a very minor procedure. For our spays/neuters and any other major procedure on a dog we use Propofol with a variations of different premeds.

Thanks for the comments. I'm looking for the mildest sedative (if anyone knows of something even milder, but reasonably effective)....

I am with Rezkat,
I love Domitor for sedation for OFA! I will not use a vet to do OFA if they use anything but Domitor! But, everyone here is different and I am sure I will be contradicted!

Domitor can also be used just alone too without the combo of Torb/Domitor. It gets reverses and they are up and walking out the door within a few minutes.
