I understand why some more professional breeders who have similar breeding goals in mind in their programs trading dogs to expand their bloodlines. I get all that. However if someone is looking to start or is just getting started in breeding then this probably wouldn't be the norm.; especially with a stranger off the internet.
Me personally if I am looking for a breeding prospect or something specific for whatever my purpose I go find it, pay for it, make it mine and if I have a dog of my own that I would be willing to part with then I will take the time to place that particular dog with the person I feel fits, doing so as a seperate issue. Not just to unload one dog so I can hopefully have a better one without having to exchange money.
I don't do "trades" or "mine was better than yours so I got ripped on the deal". If I have something you want and you have something I want then I say we'd draw up contracts for each sale, agree to a price and if it works out a wash great if not then we exchange money and everything is a done deal. Assuming we've both equally provided the same health guarantees then there should be no misunderstandings or hard feelings. But a lot of people think if we "make a deal" I saved money and got a bargain. There's no such thing in "bargains" when you are looking for "quality". JMO

I wouldn't trade a dog either! I know when my dog needs to go it goes to the right place and or it goes no where! And no where fast! I have a hard time with lets get a dog train the dog and get rid of the dog! BTJM

newage- I'm with you there. I get attached to the dogs even if they aren't exactly what I expected them to be or turn out to be. I can't part with them after they've become part of my family. I do understand though that professional breeders just can't have dogs sitting in their kennels or homes that aren't suitable for their specific needs; be it breeding or competition so they have to rotate their inventory so to speak. My dogs have forever homes here. If for whatever reason I had to rehome any of them they'd goto a family member or friend to live out their life as a pet companion.

So very very true ( AgarPhranincniStraze1 ) My dogs are just too special to me and I'd have a very hard time rehoming them! Last year I had to under go two major surgeries back to back I had these two wonderful pups that I just so wanted to keep but I felt so unfair to keep them while I healed! So I gave them to a Police Officer friend of mine! They are happy and she is happy and thats what made that transaction go well. But would it had been a different situation they would have never ever left!
