Can anyone tell me if there is a correct length to cut my Shepherd's nails?

You want to cut the tip of the nails at first. Once you feel comfortable with it, you will get the feel of where the vein is (you should feel it from the bottom kinda meaty). Black nails are hard for the uncomfortable handlers. Maybe you can have your Vet or a Groomer show you in person so you can learn by watching.
