I am thinking of importing a dog from Germany to the states. Since I never have before, does anyone have advice? Do I need an agent or can I do this personally? Any issues to be aware of?

If you have never imported a dog before, do not speak the language etc. etc., I highly recommend you get someone to help you. I will do it for no fee, but you must be 100% committed so as to not waste my time. As well, you have to know exactly what it is you are looking for. And one final issue, there are a lot of nice dogs in your own country, so you should have a clear reason as to why you want to import.

JLK,
I recently purchased a puppy from Germany. The breeder was extremely helpful and has a very good and long standing reputation. I would advise caution and do your homework, as I have heard stories from others not so lucky.
I dont mind saying I bought a wonderful puppy from Kirschental Kennel and that I'm very pleased with my pup.
I payed a proccessing fee at customs.
Kirschental handled all the shipping details for me. The Fullers are well respected and I would recomend them highly.
I payed shipping at the same time I payed for the pup.
I did wait a while for proccessing but I didnt expect to just walk in and out without some waiting.
There are scammers out there so be careful who you trust.
Good luck and I hope this helped.
