I was fixing the Dogs their dinner tonite, and was adding some macaroni and cheese, steak and potatoes that was left over from dinner. Decided to zap them with the blender so I could spread the goodies out between 6 dogs... I pressed the button. AND IKON WENT WILD!! Charged the gate, barking in a very bold big boy warning challenge. He couldn't get thru the gate so leaped onto a chair and was on his way over the counter to save me from the KILLER BLENDER.

He was totally on guard, and taking no hostages. So I know that I am now safe from Vicious blenders as long as Ikon is around!! LOL

Best way to de-sensiting little Ikon is to let him have a scoop of goodies out of the blender.  Soon he'll be wagging his tail when he hears the blender lol.

Poseidon... he was not in the least afraid of the blender.  It was just the first time he'd heard it and assumed that it  was in someway harming me as he couldn't see over the counter.  I'm quite pleased with his reaction... he perceived a threat and moved to protect me.  Believe me as soon as din-din was ready he scarfed it down as usual.

Between that and being the "Potty Police" he has a very busy life... LOL.  Nobody is allowed to go to the bathroom without him helping. He escorts you in, sits and watches, and then escorts you back out... no dang privacy at all!

Thats funny,
Mine do that, guard the bathroom door.
You can't trust blenders, never turn your back on one.
Unless you own a Black GSD......:)

Hi windwalker18,
No I wasn't insinuating that little Ikon was timid or scared by the sound of the blender.  At 5 months I am sure the little guy is experiencing lots of unfamiliar sounds and places and it is a healthy curiousity for him.  I like that in a dog too.  A dog that runs off because of unfamiliar noises would be on a timid side but not your Ikon.  I hope I am able to clarify that.

My dog is 2.5years old now and when we get drunks walking pass our house on a Friday and Saturday night making a bit of a racket, she will be the first to alert us even when they are far away at a distance with a little growl.  I would sit up in my bed, wait a second or two to make sure its just their harmless racket (and not someone trying to break in) and I'll say, "good...its okay, it is okay" and as they walk pass she sits attentively quiet on my bed till they are gone.  I rather her remain quiet but alert in such occassion so as not to intimidate those drunks in case they become a real nuisance.  Mind you if she was outside the house, she will be harder to control.

I believe you can teach a curious dog a lot but much harder work involved with the less secured ones.  Good luck with Ikon.
