namastey,

have  anyone of u guys ever tried doing reiki on your dogs or even thought of getting them healed through reiki.  though i practised a lot  (i am level II) but have not been doing it on dogs.  with family members and close friends,  have done with great success but never on dogs as by the grace of god they all are healthy.  but a friend of mine who sometime back was helped by me  through reiki, insists doing it for his dog.

comments and advice are eagerly awaited,

regards

I have a friend who is trained in reikki. She then became certified for horses but had to do the training specifically for the horses. It is not universal in technique for humans and animals or even one species of animal over another.

She, obviously, swears by it's results. Some of the owner's do, as well. I think it's a load of malarky. But, that's just MHO.

I have to say, in all fairness, that of the people who she has worked on or animals she has worked on the majority seem satisfied with the results.  I have just noticed that many of them have started out with complaints that were rather nebulous and would be difficult to definitively prove an improvement on.

Aye! Me believes it would be of benefit. For t' best o' both worlds and t' have a more willing dog, why not combine reiki with a massage?aye! T' Captain knows massage releases ENDORPHINS Mechanically stretches and elongates muscles, Stimulates parasympathetic nervous system, Reduction in pain, Helps improve weak muscles, Supports relaxation and improves sleep. Massage alleviates t' restriction o' muscles as well as tension and stiffness. Enhances blood circulation, Increases flexibility and durability o' muscles, Delivers more oxygen and nutrients t' t' muscles which reduces muscle fatigue and soreness. Always knead towards t' heart, and dont forget t' all important pads. me always finish me charge's massage with a good pad coatin' o' Petroleum jelly. This keeps t' pads soft andAhoy!ple and free from cracks. When you combine all o' t' above benefits, with t' special bondin' that occurs between you and your dog durin' Massage time, it might be t' most important time o' t' canine's workout.aye....Reiki and Massage t' key to a happy GSD

We use therapeutic touch(which includes several energy focusing and massage techniques, including reiki) in the hospice unit, and it was also used in the ICU I used to work in. We have found that it helps people relax & promotes a sense of well-being....I know of several people who swear by it for their animals. For myself, I've never had anything more than a very subtle reaction to reiki...but I think it's one of those things you have to believe in to get the most benefit from it. There have been several very positive studies on it's results....and it's also one of those things that can't do any harm, so, If you're into it, go for it! Even if the only result is a closer bond with your dog, that's a sure benefit! jackie harris

Jackie, you make a good point as far as not doing any harm. In hindsight I suppose even if it is a placebo effect as far as people having better results if they believe in it then it would still be a good thing. Pain still hurts whether it's psychosomatic or not and relief still feels good even if it's a placebo effect. I'm not saying this necessarily IS a placebo effect, just that I guess it really shouldn't make a difference either way.

If it provides relief, for either reason, it is probably a good thing.

If we are talking about a genuinly trained practitioner. I just recieved a pm about a person who was "taken" by a fraudulent practitioner. I suppose there is some sort of registry for certified professionals in this field?

I've never thought to ask the question. Probably others havent either which would make it easy for false claims.

I think reiki definintley can benefit dogs. Here's why....

One morning in September 2006 I woke up to find my 7 year old cocker spaniel totally lame in his hindend. He couldn't even stand up on his own. The night before, he was 100% normal. Playing ball, being his happy self , totally healthy. I took him directly to an emergency vet and upon exam they could not figure out what was wrong with him. They also did xrays- nothing wrong. So from there I took him to my regular vet who has a holistic practice. I had to carry him in because he could not walk. The vet examined him, did a snap lyme test- which came back positive. So he had lyme disease. Now for the reiki- she has a liscensed reiki practioner in the office who came in and performed her magic. I'll be honest- it was hard for me to not giggle under my breath as I watched her. She layed crystals all around my dog on the floor, rubbed different crystals over his body, whispered a bunch of stuff under her breath, lit some dried herb and waved it through the air, and waved around a big bird feather. So imagine not giggling! Maybe that's just the immature side of me! She held her hands over Onyx and lightly touched him. The whole thing took about 20 minutes and when she was done Onyx got up and trotted out of the office like nothing was wrong!! I had to carry him around prior to the reiki, remember. Did it work? I think so. Is it possible he just wanted to get the "F" out of there? maybe.

..being a reiki practioner..i have used it on dogs many times...after placing my hands on and summoning reiki energy..after a short period of time.as the energy is present the younger dogs become restlessand begin to squirm around...then i console them with soothing conversation...reiki..massage,,it all helps..
