I've had many different suggestions on feeding eggs.....which do you think is best for your dogs, Raw or hard boiled?  I feed them with the shell.
Thanks!

I use both, if I don't have HB on hand I use raw.  Both are good and nutritious.  NAN

Nans, when you feed them raw do you also give them the white? I remember reading the white when raw is not good especially for the puppies, what do you say?

Thanks, Ibrahim

I feed the dogs 2 raw eggs each day. IMHO raw is the best form of nutrition for dogs, they will utilize/absorb more, and it will be put to "better use" in their system. They didnt have anyone hard boiling their eggs in the wild. :)

I have always wondered about feeding the shells...do you break them up or just give them the whole egg to tear into?

thanks everyone!  Sounds like Raw eggs are the way to go!  We always crush the shell!

I'm with Ibrahim. I did read something about raw egg-white affecting vitamin uptake in puppies. So, coddled eggs for puppies. Dunked in very hot water then allowed to cool.

I think what Ibrahim recalls hearing about is the binding of biotin by avidin, a protein found in egg whites (albumen). Avidin is inactivated by heating. This source is often referenced. There's considerable debate about whether this is a real concern (ie. how many raw eggs are you feeding?).

The other issue that is often discussed with feeding raw eggs with the shell is whether the eggs have been sprayed with a preservative or not (ie. ask your egg supplier). There's also debate about whether cooking the eggs makes the proteins more biologically available (ie. this is a debate in the MMA community too).

Like pretty much everything associated with raw feeding, look at both sides of the arguments and do what you feel comfortable with.

I feed boiled eggs from my in-laws' farm but that's more because I have to boil an egg for my husband anyway than being unduly concerned with the binding of biotin.

Yeah, from what I have read, raw egg white can bind up biotin, but the yolk supplies biotin, so it should even out.

I feed raw eggs fresh from the chickens--my dogs beg from them as I am collecting them, so I give them the banty eggs and any that maybe are dirtier than I would prefer.
