Is this a coated dog? If so then how does the dog make KKL1 And VA2?

The GSD in the foto looks coated,, perhaps it's the wrong picture. And he is very steep in the croup and would have impaired side gait.

I would call him coated - if he is really VA2 KKl-1 (under SV Koermeister and not one of those "coatie show judges") then I guess they did some trimming, or maybe someone had some judge-friends. Who knows. Nothing surprises me anymore.

On this photo he looks to be longcoated and way too short in body for me.

and so it goes on. do you guys ever say anything nice about anyone elses dog? So hes a longcoat/coated, whatever you want to call him. Coat colour and length has no bearing on a dogs working abilities, (2nd time today!). He is darned handsome, and hes somebodys much loved dog, so lets not tear him to pieces eh? For what its worth, i think hes a great looking lad.

Realize the coat does not make a difference with working ability but how does such a dog get VA1? And his physique just does not "look right" to me. Not from judging against the standard, which I could not adequately argue against, he just looks "off" to me.
I think it is fair game. Valid questions have beena sked.

The dog has very nice proportions and great pigment. A bit of a badger head from the front, but not bad. He is not too short in body (actually there is no such thing in the breed). Excessive length is common nowdays and brings many serious problems with it, many centering on back and propulsion problems. A short iron back and a short loin is superior. Most folks just don't know the standard.
A good example of a near perfect GSD in proportions is Jasso von der Malchower Aue : If he uses his rear properly, he would not need more rear angulation. This si the type of GSD that could likely work all day without tiring. Note the exceptional withers, rarely seen this good.
