I love looking at x rays and am trying to get better at evaluating what I see...thought you guys might know where I can view more pictures and information. Or if anyone wants to post their own x rays with results on here that would be great also. Thanks!

i'll post my new dogs prelim's---Jolla Bett Silver--she's here on PDB--- when i get her (2/13) & take her to vets on 2/14----they were already viewed by my vet & sent to radiologists----1 of who used to read for OFA----we'll see what opinions are compared to report------   I'll title it "Jolla's  Hip's"-----

is it best to put the films up to a window & take pictures ---with or without flash???    OR  should I take pictures of them when they are on the light board???

light board is best. No flash. decrease shutter speed if possible.

If you want to see how hips are evaluated in the U.K visit the BVA website, or Videx website, very informative.

The leerburg site helped me out alot...but I thought I would mention one more thing - that last xray that he has pictured probably isnt an OFA xray - it looks like the second radiograph they take of the dog in the PennHip to look at the fit of the balls in the socket...they push the hips in in order to do that.

Here are a couple for you to look at.  One is of my 6 year old male and the older of my almost 3 year old female.  These were taken again recently to submit to the O.F.A.  I have yet to send the darn things in though!  Both were "a" normal at 12 months.

Here is a perfect display of the difference between a good hip and a moderate HD hip.  This is my bitch xrayed at 2 years old, unilateral Moderate HD.  On the bad side you can see the jagged edges (acetabular rim/edge change) and thickening of the head and neck (degenerative joint disease...aka arthritis)...the other side is good, possibly excellent with nice clean, smooth, rounded edges and a deep, tight fit into the socket.
