My 10 month old male is not walking correctly today. I let him out earlier today and he wobbled/limped a bit and then lay down. I tested him some and he does walk and trot but looks uncomfortable. Just a short time ago I let him out to do his business. When I called him back he came but just before he got to the door he fell, like his legs went out from him. What could be going on? Does it sound like pano? I've never had a dog with it. I did palpate the long bones and nothing seemed to hurt. I also checked his pads. It seems to be on the right side rear. He is crated for rest. My vet is not available today but I will call him tomorrow.
No injury.
What could it be? He doesn't look right when he moves.

geez - take him to another vet. "could be" something serious. Why chance it.

I would take a guess and say Pano, as he is still young enough for it to happen. It could be a sprain as well, but you stated that he had no injury.
A skilled veterinarian can diagnose Pano through a radiograph and palpation, so let's hope for the best here. Pano is better than a lot of other things.

I hate the wait. I'm sure this worries you but tomorrow will come soon enough. I dont think you can do anything about it till then anyway. I've been there, you'll have a long night.
Good luck, dont worry about what you dont know.
See the vet.

Gsdlvr2,
I recently had a pup injured at 6 o'clock after the vet closed. We have no after hours number to call and if we did it would be very expensive . I had to wait till the next morning. My pup was in pain and all I could do was keep him comfortable till I could get him into the vet. Needless to say I was up all night watching over him, comforting him, and worrying.
Was not a good night..
Next day, we got to the vet and everything has worked out.
I guess I'm saying I know what its like...
Have a little faith and try not to stress out till tomorrow.

If there's any way he could have gotten poisoned or eaten a poisonous plant, or licked anti-freeze you may want to take him to a vet who can see him immediately. It probably is just Pano, but like Two Moons I hate the wait!

Probably pano? I was starting to think spine problem. I hope it's only pano.
sueincc, no chance on getting into poison or antifreeze, he was belly tucked all day.
Like i said, I have no experience with pano, can it make his legs go out from under and fall?

I am concerned about your statement that his legs went out from under him and he fell. Was it a single leg that went out from under him or more? Dogs can have limbs go to sleep, just like humans, but it does not sound like that was what was going on. Pano, while it can be very uncomfortable, causes limping, usually in one leg at a time, although it can migrate from week to week or month to month, or even day to day. Pano does not cause this, at least in the way you are describing this episode. The fact that you note he is not walking properly is of concern. What does a normal day for him consist of?
I am concerned that something else is going on. I assume this is the first time this has happened. I am also assuming he is otherwise acting normally. When he fell, was he able to get up immediately or did he flail around? Was he alert to your presence at that time? Is he eating and drinking normally? Has he had any opportunity to injure himself in the last week or so?
There are a lot of possibilities here, from nothing serious, to things that might be very worrisome. If this happens again tonight, I would consider getting him to a vet before tomorrow. If his condition otherwise seems normal and this does not happen again, just watch him.
Good luck.

hodie- while I did not get a great look when his legs went out from under, I think it was both legs to the one side. There was a flail but not flailing around. It was more of a stumbling to get up and he could not execute it quickly. It took seconds to get up so, not instant like a normal fall. He was alert to my presence, nothing that would indicate to me to a seizure. He is eating and drinking normally and at present sleeping in a crate peacefully. Getting him to a vet tonight would be thousands of dollars. I don't think it is emergent or I would take him regardless of cost.
No chance of injury even within the last week unless it was some weird thing he did unnoticed.

Almost sounds neurological-if you flip is feet under (tops of toes down on the ground, pads up-hard to describe) while he is standing up will he flip them back right away? The wobblyness is worrysome as well...If you shine a light in his eyes do they constrict or stay dialated?
