Can anyone recommend a good Pet Insurer in the UK?

Thanks.

Pet Plan or the Kennel Club. You get what you pay for!

I hear Geico is now insuring pets along with our cars. I have yet to look into it, so can't say if it's pricey, or even covers the emergency type things along with regular check up  visits. This is also in the US, have no idea if Geico even insures in the UK.

A wise man at Cambridge Vet School told me that it is always best to insure pets with a specialist company like Pet Plan because you are less likely to have problems with claims being argued about if it involves anything a bit unusual or coincidental.  With some of the cheaper companies, you may find the excess is just a bit higher than is practical or that they make exclusions like no hereditary diseases and often will not continue to insure your pet into old age.  All points to check before paying your premium.

Do all companies charge an excess for treatment?

A workmate of mine is insured through Tesco and has to pay the first £60 of any treatment costs.

GSM,

Having had dogs insured with Pet Plan years ago and having to make 1 claim only to find the next year premium was increased almost in-line with the previous years claim I switched to E&L, as I said in PM. I haven't made a claim in yeqars but take insurance out largely for 3rd party cover and daft puppy tricks that might result in something needing to be re-attached.

Year two and so on, my cover is lowered to a policy that is less comprehensive but still covers a 3rd party and so is therefore cheaper too.

Also as far as my extensive search brought up, all companies charge an excess and have various limitations in different areas of a claim, like they might double the excess for claims over £1000 etc.  Also they may have a limit on a single claim even though your overall limit is higher.

Pound for pound and cover against cover, E&L came out best for me.
