I have a GSD he is 7 yrs old,an he's started to vomit daily.Started just here an there thought nothing much of it but now its daily.Sometimes all day through out the day but mostly just once a day in the morning around 8am.I took him to the vet they ran a complete blood work on him an thats fine they took xrays of his tummy to make sure he didn't have blockage.Well all they found was that he was full of gas an told me to put him on a boiled hamburger/chicken an rice diet. He's been like this for a lil over a month an losing weight fast. The vet kinda gave up on things for him an told me to just feed him when he will eat.His dish always has food in it but he has a very low appitite wont eat much if any at all. Will even go days before eating very lil only to vomit the next morning.I willing to take anyones advise i cant stand to see him like this he's lost 23 lbs in only a month! PLEASE ANYONE HELP!

I'm sorry, I don't know what is wrong with your dog, but I suggest you take him to a different vet ASAP. If I were you, I would be taking him to a Veterinary School, but if you don't have access to one, go to a different vet. Your vet having been unable to diagnose your dog should have referred you to a specialist or at least a hospital that might be able to do more than just tell you to let him eat what he wants. That is not acceptable.

I agree that you should take your dog to another vet. While there are some vets that are caring, others don't want to take the time to figure anything out; if they can't just give a shot or prescribe some prednizone, then it's so long.
The first order is getting some food on your dog's stomach. He's starving to death by losing that much weight.
I would suggest you put him on a natural diet. Two books I've found helpful are Dr. Pitcairn's Natural Health for Dogs and Cats (3rd edition is the newest). The other is the Whole Pet Diet by Andi Brown. While your dog might not want to eat his regular food, these books prescribe natural sources of meat, grains, veggies, etc., along with the supplements and it could really help to spark his appetite.
In the short-term, you could try making up a mash for him. I've used it for some of my dogs whose appetites haven't been strong for a time or when they get finicky. I put in a food processor the dog's regular food, a slice of cooked liver, and a thick slice of Natural Balance's Beef Roll (you can get them at Petco). Put about 1/2 a cup of water, then process. Add more water if you need, but don't make it too liquidy. Right now you could just give him the mash by itself. It will at least give him some calories and protein and shouldn't be difficult for his stomach to digest. Also give him a dollop of yogurt for probiotics as this might also help his stomach.
If he likes peanut butter, you can make up a healthy treat that will also have calories:
32 ounces vanilla or plain yogurt
1 mashed banana
2 tab. peanut butter
2 tab honey
Put everything in bleneder and mix. Freeze in ice cube trays, then give him a cube or two if he'll take it.
I also have a recipe I've used that I found in my research that worked when my oldest shepherd got ill and started losing weight.
1 1/2 pounds of fatty raw hamburger
1/2 cup wheat germ
1 package Knox gelatin
3 egg yolks
4 1/2 teaspoons vegetable oil
3 cups uncooked oatmeal
4 1/2 teaspoons molasses
Mix everything together like you would a meatloaf. Then form into meatballs, place on cookie sheet and freeze, then put in containers. Microwave each meatball 30 seconds, depending on size. give 2-3 a day with regular diet.
You might also want to invest in some digestive enzymes like Prozyme as you need to balance about his digestive system.
Good Luck,

This is a serious problem in that he has lost so much weight. There is not enough information here to really help you, but I can ask some questions and we can go from there.
Does your dog seem to be otherwise alert and healthy? If there is a change, when did the change in him begin?
Are his stools regular, formed and firm? Have you noted any tarry like, black stool ever? Is there any mucous in his stool? Any diarrhea? Is he having any episodes of peeing or pooping where he should not?
Was any blood work done, and is so, what? For example, what is the status of his kidneys based on the blood work?
When was the last time he was wormed? Did they do any testing to rule out parasites? Tapeworms, and roundworms can cause vomiting.
Does he have a fever?
What do you feed him and has his food changed recently before the vomiting started?
Is there any chance he could have gotten into some sort of poisons?
Has there ever been blood or coffee ground like matter in the vomitus?
What is he vomiting when he does vomit? Is it food or yellow colored fluid (bile)?
What do you feed him and normally, how often did he eat?
The bottom line is that these are some of the issues this vet should have asked already. Maybe he/she already did. IF not, you may want to consider taking this dog to a different vet ASAP. The weight loss is severe and if this continues, the prognosis is not very good. There are a variety of things that this could be and other than the parasites, they are pretty serious, including kidney, liver, and gastric problems. However, it could be just as simple as a huge infection of worms or even an ulcer.....
If you want to give more information, we will try to help, but you should not stop here and the dog needs to see a vet who will look into this further. Something is absolutely NOT right.

The blood work they did test liver, kidneys ect.all came back normal. They tested for parasites an he's got none. He's got no fever an his vomit is yellow an normaly happens in the morning but like i said can happen anytime in the day. an sometimes happens through out the day over an over.I feed him beneful its one of the dog foods he'll eat.I've tried switching him to natruals choice grain free an avoderm an he refuses to eat those. He always had a full dish of food but would noramly eat a bowl a day an i'd refill it incase he wanted more..only on rare occasions would he eat a second bowl.As for posions i dont see how he could get into any, he's always with me.an when he's outside he's ona 40ft cable an the yard is free of anything that would harm him.

How did the vet check for parasites? Have them check again. Did they do a barium study of his gut? If not, I suggest it would be a good place to start. There are obstructions that will not show up well on x-ray.
Do NOT put him on any high fat food for now, and though Beneful a poor food, I would not change it for now. You have to figure out what is going on. It sounds like he is vomiting bile. He could have some lesion in his stomach or elsewhere. He could have an infection in his gut somewhere, or an ulcer or a bile duct obstruction or hepatitis, or pancreatitis. The possibilities are many and a good vet will stick with this, although it could get expensive trying to find out. If you know what the blood tests were and the results, you can post them here.
Best advice, go back to the vet and ask for a referral to a specialist or an internal medicine vet if he/she does not want to probe further.
Good luck.

Sorry I can't help you but I wanted to share. My Am-bred (now 6 year's old) has always vommited yellow bile in the morning, about 3-6 x's a week since he was a pup. He never vomit's after meals but he is fed once in the afternoon and once at night. When he was a pup he would never eat in the morning (possibly due to this AM nausea) so I always fed him later, when he would eat.
I asked my vet a long time ago about it, he said not to worry about it since he never vomited a meal and was otherwise healthy.
I thought about this when you mentioned the color of his vomit. Not sure if it helps, but I thought I'd share.
Good luck!

Melanie

Hi,did your vet instruct you to collect the poop samples over a 3 to 4 day period in a bottle with liquid in it?If not ,that is how you PROPERLY collect stool samples in order to have the best chance for detection as the other way of collecting it only once can and does fail because they dont always shed the eggs.Good luck with your dog, hope everything goes well and its something simple as worms.

brownidgirl76, are you sure banal worms are not the reason of all this?
If there`s something else and nobody knows exactly what it is -
DON`T LOSE TIME!!! VOMITING RESULTS IN DEHYDRATION!!! IT IS VERY DANGEROUS FOR DOG`S HEALTH!!!!!
I usually use homoeopathy (German HEEL) and herbs (St.-John`s wort, mint, nettle, sweet flag`s rhizome, valerian`s rhizome&root, buckthorn`s bark etc.)
You can try and find something yourself :
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=dog+homoeopathy+herb+vomit
or (better!) consult a specialist.
Good luck!
