Naya's Mom

by Naya's Mom on 02 February 2008 - 23:02

My 4 year old male, Golden Retriever has recently (Since this morning) started peeing blood. I know what to do for humans, if they have some sort of bladder infection, but what would one do for a dog?

If more information is needed, please ask, and I'll do my best to answer. Thank you in advance!

It could be a Urinary Tract Infection at the minimum.

Is he going more frequently than normal?  Accidents where/when he's not had them before?

A trip to the veterinarian is definitely in order here.

Go to the vet immediately.  It could be anything from rat poison to prostatitis to a bladder infection, etc.

Yes, this dog must be taken to the vet and immediately. There are simple things, such as a urinary tract infection, but there are more serious matters, including as Louise has posted and some sort of serious kidney problems. You risk serious consequences by coming here to ask what you should do. It should be crystal clear. What would you do if you were urinating blood? Go on the internet and ask for some silly remedy? The diagnosis will guide the treatment and that requires a trip to the VET.

Well, Dakoda's been in the ER vet for around 2.5 hours now, they want to keep him overnight for observations.

I'll post an update when I get one.

Good luck!  I hope everything goes well and will look forward to updates.

What a sweet face! I will pray for him and hope that you can pick him up in the morning with a prescription of antibiotics due to a bladder infection.

Thank you for your support...I too, hope it's something pretty minor. When I brought him in, they looked at him, but there was no major panic, so I hope thats a good sign...we'll see what happens in the morning...

I miss Koda, he was my night-time Teddy Bear, apart from the Shepherd girls, Naya and Danica.

Thank you again for your prayers and support, it means a lot to me, and I hope to type some good news tomorrow.
