Why not breed to a working line?  I thought breeding was for the betterment of the breed

I belive the mother is  a sable showline, von Arlett produced alot of sables

why not.

there have been a few topics lately about crossing working and show lines.  brings better structure to the working line and improve working ability in the showline.   granted its not going to happen in one breeding, but if more breeders where doing it  then maybe (just maybe) we wouldnt be talking about "show" or "working" line.

as max said "the golden middle"

Not to mention that she may be showline. I think it says that she's grandaughter of ulk arlett. Arlet uses sable dogs, their website tells all about it.

GSDsportdog,

please read the ad! Maybe, you did not get the point! The mother is a granddaughter of Ulk Arlett. Ulk was VA-1 two times and that makes him showlines, not workinglines. There are sable showlines, even though they are getting rare. As a matter of fact,  we currently own a titled sable male (Arlett) and two titled sable females (Haus Dexel and Silbersee). They are showlines.

And what is wrong with mixing lines? Believe me it is being done, also by big name breeders. But the results won't be really visible for another few years. I for one am happy because I truly think that these dogs can do something for our breed. Here is one example: www.arlett.de/hunde/lottevonarlett.html I have been following her progress since she has been 8 weeks old. She is being raised by a working person. Watch the videos. Her heeling alone is beautiful.

with this type of breeding, it will make better working ability, but for sure these sable show line dog, will not make to hight V, or VA rated.

we all showline are aiming for Black and Red, the redder the better, and I don't think any body have any chance showing sable show line, and think they will go home with any trophy or ribbon.

it's like getting a supper model, and mix him with a really ugly gal, but very muculer, and hopping next few generation, this kid will be beautiful and strong, yes, this kid will for sure strong, but not beautiful. because Adjuscha himself was already best stud dog. why get this popular well know dog do this job, why just get a no name dog, not as popular.

GSDsportdog,

for your information: The breed standard calls for more color varieties than just cookie cutter black and red. And with a sable dog, you certainly will have a tougher time winning a trophy or ribbon, as you put it. But there are sables who achieve a lot: Look at Timo vom Berrekasten for example. Unfortunately, there is always politics involved. When Peter Messler stepped down, the time for diversities came to a screeching halt. But there will be a new era. Mark my words! Kudos to breeders who do not breed for cheap trinkets! To each their own! Good luck with your quest for ribbons and trophies! Trust me, they are just dust catchers!

And you are wrong about your assumption that sables "will not make to high V or VA-rated". Please check out my homebred female V-Gina vom Silbersee. She was SG-53 at the German Sieger Show in 2006. That was the best ring and made her the best sable shown. It takes efforts and a long rocky road. Not a quick fix! www.vomsilbersee.com/gina.html
