Am totally gutted as my beautiful 2 year old male died a couple of nights ago. He was fine in the afternoon and evening but by late evening was suddenly very quite, would not get up and deteriorated over 4 hours and died. Thought it was gastric torsion but abdomen was fine. Vet said it was probably a congenital heart defect  although he seemed to be fine before. Admittedly he did pant louder than my other dogs when walking or when it was hot but thought it was just peculiar to him.

Has anyone had similar experience?

I dont know what to say.

I'm very sorry for your loss.  I don't have a similar experience, just wanted to express my condolences.

Klekoni, you have my deepest sympathy.  It's so hard to lose a good dog at a tender age.  Even worse when you're not sure why...hang in there.

That is so sad, I'm very sorry. I've heard of similar deaths in young GSD's and most times it is a congenital heart defect.

Could be mesenteric torsion.  What other symptoms did your dog have?  So sorry for your loss.  It's never easy losing a friend.  My cousin lost her 18 month old from this....

I am so sorry for your loss.  It's like losing a child.

I have a 4 year old with EPI and heart murmur (underdeveloped heart valve).  He also pants frequently and loud, even in winter, so I monitor him very carefully. My vet suspected the heart problem about 2 years ago so I had an ultrasound on him. You could see the underdeveloped valve, but it's not so severe to have him on medication.  Thank God since the medicine for the EPI is so expensive!

Once again.  I am so sorry.  I'm sure his memories will remain with you always.
