i'm thinking of getting another crate. i want a double dog crate but this time i want one with a lid on top. i've looked and they all seen to be a little short for the GSD. about 20 inches of head room. that isn't enough for a dog to sit up without crouching his head. are there any taller ones out there or do your dogs just deal with it? any comments from anyone that has one would be appreciated.

Real spendy, but I think they'll make to order. Anyone bought from them?

I have two free standing crates and a set up with two crates over two large equipment drawers built by MArk. They are the best, pure and simple. But yes, they were expensive and prices are up now too. I had the set up for my vehicle custom made and he actually found a vehicle there, just like mine, and went and measured for me to make sure there were no errors. I ordered a second door on both vehicle crates so that dogs can get in from outside the vehicle in the rear, or from inside the passenger doors and also had him put bars 1 inch apart. In this way the dogs cannot get their teeth on the bars and this will prevent chipping or breaking teeth. I highly recommend his work and products. He does have a long lead time because he is not mechanized and everything is hand made to order.

Thanks Ranchlady. now i'm thinking draws instead of lid, and slant front to make sure it works with the SUV as well.

I was looking at buying one also. When we priced what we wanted custom built for the back of my truck it wound up close to $2000.00. OUCH!!! So my boyfriend priced the metal and took out his old welder and is building one for me. It will be about a third of the cost as the custom built ones. It will have 3 boxes, top storage, fans and a heater for the dogs. Also all the boxes will be locking. I will post pictures of it when we are done. He currently has most of the frame together and is working on the rest.

I own a setup from Kustom Krates. I have two crates plus an underneath equipment box. This thing is awesome. It was worth every penny. Yes, they are expensive, but you get what you pay for. The attention to detail is incredible. My dogs love them. The safety factor for my dogs was big for me and that's why I spent the money. The standard size fits my dogs perfect. I think they measure 24 x 36.

I think one of the considerations for crate time is the amount of time spent in it.  The fact that a dog cannot ride standing up in a truck box offers some safety advantages and encourages them to be calm in the crate but is not so great for all day long.

My dogs did fine with some homemade crates that were 24 x 48 x 24 for a number of years.  They could stand an turn but not for any prolonged time. Neither dog was greater than 24 at the shoulders though.

I have 24x36 standard crates in the back of my truck for transport but when I can afford will go to  bigger aluminum crates (They make some that are 40 inches long) . My dogs are not oversized by any stretch ( 50 and 70lbs(small stature - heavy bone-not a tall lanky dog) but we have all day training at least one weekend a month and that gets tight for my 70lb dog for all day except when working.

This crate has the most headroom I have found.

It's from Ray allen. It measures 38Lx25Wx28H. It has a price of $499.95+ only $35 shipping ANYWHERE in the US.

Is anyone using these?
