"snacks"?

My normal size GSDs don't need "snacks"

Better off forgetting the idea of "snacks" for the dog, healthy or not.

This was probably how the dog became over weight in the first place.

Dogs don't need snacks, just correct portion of food. Split the meal into two and feed morning and evening if you feel bad about the dog going without food for too long. But make sure it is only one regular meal split. not two larger meals.

BABY CARROTS - huge hit at our place we started using them with teething pups and after a while even the picky adult dogs get in line for a crunch we also dole out many other raw fruit & veggies.

If you are reducing the size of your dogs meals,  you can add canned green beans as a filler.  Look for low sodium cans.  Dogs seem to like them - I don't know why.

Mine also like carrots so I'll toss them some chunks occasionally.  Don't freak out if you see very orange poop in the yard.

My wife gives her little Yorkies...baby carrots and they just absolutely love 'em...No problems...I've given my Shepherds baby carrots and they poop them like baby submarines...It's very funny...At first my Shepherds just looked at me and at the carrots...like to ask..."are you kidding or something...you want me to eat that"...but after awhile they start to enjoy them too...Veggies are very good for your dogs and they will think they're great snacks...

I forgot that I also give them low fat plain yogurt and they love eating that right off the spoon.  Great for the digestion too.

Dogs should be kept lean. Dogs, as others have already said, do not need SNACKS. That is you talking. What dogs do need is an appropriate type and appropriate amount of food and plenty of exercise. Such exercise should be more than a "walk around the block" once in a while. I am always amused at how people think a single 10 minute walk on a leash around the block is sufficient exercise.

If you get a decent food that is "light" for overweight dogs, make sure it has sufficient protein to be palatable. Giving a dog green beans can provide more fiber, and a few carrots here or there might be fine. But don't overdo it.
