Is it a fault for a dog to start whining after he bites and is holding the sleeve? HE does ever thing correct but as soon as he hits the sleeve he whines then once the helper releases it he goes quiet?

It is probably not a big deal. I have a dog who does this too, especially if he is trying to win the sleeve.

Thanks hodie!

Aye!! This not be a sign o' weakness, but rather INTENSITY Aye! Me loves a dog, when in hold and workin', will whine with Intensity Aye! In 1539 when De Soto brought his War Dogs (Mastiffs and Greyhounds) t' hunt and fight t' Indians, when he lost a battle t' Indians would take his injured War dogs and nurse them aft t' health aye. T' Indians crossbred these War Dogs with their Red Wolf and produced t' "Wolf Dog"Aye! Tis said t' Wolf Dog be so intense it be whinnin' as it killed its Prey Aye!! T' whiinin' be a sound o' intensity and frustration that me can't kill t' Prey smartly enough! Aye

It sounds like the dog is leaking his drive or not switching correctly. How old is he? It could be a maturity thing or a helper problem.
Can you post a video? Is this for Schutzhund?
Peace

I always thought a high pitched whining was more of a sign of stress in the dog.

Maybe I am describing it wrong, I will try and get a video of it this weekend. He has done it all he time I have had it from just playing tug of war with him to doing bite work. Its not a loud yelp it dose not sound like he is in pain its like he just really wants what he is tugging on. Its more like a soft cry.

How old is the dog? Also if sometimes you are doing the sleeve work yourself you could be creating conflict with the dog which is showing up when worked with the helper too.
