Some of you may remember my female Dana. I bought her in July '06 and sold her a year later shortly after her second birthday.

Hadn't heard anything from the new owner so guess I figured all must be going well. Got a call a few days ago asking if I wanted Dana back as her hip x-rays were one of the worst she had seen. She described them as being "terrible" and "ugly". Guess I'm a bit stunned as I never noticed any outward signs of any problems when I had Dana, and the lady admitted she hadn't noticed any problems, either. Dana has always been a very happy, energetic and outgoing girl.
I realize it's tough to comment without seeing the x-rays but should have them within a week along with Dana. I'm hoping I can get some good advice on diet and exercise to delay the inevitable for her.
I'm also hoping the people who think their dog must have good hips because he/she can "run and jump' will see this and learn something. But probably not :-(
BTW, I didn't breed Dana, just didn't want to see her end up in a shelter or rescue. This must be why I was having so much trouble finding another dog. I needed to save a place for Dana. Should take her about 30 seconds to find all the bones she buried in the back yard.:-)

You walk the walk, Triodegirl, and you are right, HD isn't always obvious. The upside is since she hasn't had any problems, the odds are she won't until she's very old when most get arthritis anyway.

good for you for bringing her back. I would do the same thing.
swimming should be good exercise for her to increase muscle and decrease impact. please post the x-rays when you get them

God bless you for bringing your girl home; I hope she never does show any symptoms! I agree, someone was holding her spot open for her....jh

Thanks, guys. I'm hoping for the best. First order of business will be having Dana spayed so there's no chance of an oops! I'll post the x-rays when I get them.

Bless your heart i know it hurts to wonder what to do....and should all learn you have to get xrays done , you cannot let a vet just tell you without an exray oh she is ok , she doesnt seem to have a problem dont waste your money....she is fine...
Ive heard it a million times....did she send xrays off to ofa or are they so bad the vet was able to say....?????? sometime when they are so bad,,,the vet can tell you they are bad....Good luck

Good for you triodegirl! Who knows though, maybe the xrays look like the ones posted here a couple days ago and aren't a good quality film. Even if her hips are bad she can go a long time w/o symptoms. My old girl passed at 12+ last June. She was severely dysplastic, I would not have guessed either, pogo stick comes to mind when she was a youngster. At any rate the day she passed she still took her 1/2 mile walk, she had a tumor that got her not her joints....

Take the dog back & rehome her to someone that will truly love her........
I have a girl named Dana Von Ryans & I was going to rehome her cause she didn't get

To this day they ARE gettting along........
End of story!
