Does anyone have any reccomendations on training books/ methods for training Schutzhund style heeling and obedience? I live in the Portland Ore area and have two older females. I would love to try out the intense heeling I see Schutzhund dogs performing but I don't even know where to begin.....

Ivan Balabanovs DVD's are excellant.  They are titled Obedience Without Conflict and I think you can get them from his web site. I Can't get enough of them.

Thanks, Jletcher, I will check out those links. I did go out and watch a training session w/ WVSC this summer.

As for Ivan's DVD, is it worth spending $70 on? I once bought a Leerburg tape and I felt pretty ripped off.  Didn't learn much other than how to fit a training collar correctly...

Re: Ivan's DVD's, for me well worth it.

I just love that the training is so relaxed, so much fun for dog and handler.  But you may find them to expensive and not get enough out of them I can only say that I think they are well worth it.

Must admit I was already clicker training before I ever saw his videos (now have the DVD's) so his methods weren't  a mystery to me.  I love the difference in my training these days and watch the DVD's over and over and always spot something new each time.

If you're just interested in Obedience training...then you don't just have to limit yourself to Schutzhund Clubs...but you can also go to your local AKC Club too...AKC teaches some very nice Obedience...Everything is taught through "motivation"...and this is the way to go...You don't need to be hard on your dog...you teach them to push you to learn...

There is also a book that's been out for awhile by Gottfried Dildei and it's a very good book for learning motivational skills...Not that expensive and well worth investing in and putting in you library...

Ivan's videos are very good.  Maybe you can find them a little cheaper on e bay or something.

Schutzhund Obedience - Training in Drive - by Sheila Booth and Gottfried Dildei are very good.

Advanced Schutzhund by Ivan and I'm drawing a blank on the other author!  Will go get the book and look at it.  LOL

I love the Willamette Valley club  - they are a great bunch there, very nice, down-to-earth, and extremely helpful.

Advanced Schutzhund by Ivan and Karen Duet.

Another book which I found to be a good read is Purely Positive Training by Sheila Booth.

For every book or method that was recommended go with what you are most comfortable with.  Also know that NOTHING is set in stone.  :)
