Hi all! Thank you for the great info! I am thinking of starting a "get together" club in the modoc county cali area for those interested in the working breeds. My ideas include car-pooling to trials & seminars & having pro guest speakers for demos & eventually becoming a training club. I am wondering if an unregistered or even a mix breed dog can be titled for bh, schh, etc.? That would be good for people who have rescued a working breed dog and would provide a larger group in my small area. Also, what are good videos for myself & for a group? Thanks again! ~Krystin

Hello Krystin,

Yes, mixed breed dogs can play schutzhund. A UKC registered dog is considered a mixed breed with USA because UKC is not registered with FCI.  Just like AKC's ILP, USA has a PR (performance registry) number you can apply for through your local breed warden.  Your dog would then be able to apply as a GSD in its scorebook.

Good Luck with your group,

Karly,

You can also trial them with WDA and get Schutzhund titles as well.

 That is great Karly,

So many clubs discriminate other breeds or mixed breeds. I think Schutzhund is a great sport for any dog that needs an outlet for their energy. I saw a great picture with a lady and her cattle dog yesterday, the dog was loving it. I wish you the best of luck.

Good luck with your new club. Any dog can earn a title. I've seen a Goldern Retriever earn a SchH3, and handsomely in the 80's in Illinois and Austrailian Shepherds from Nicky Batley from Texas, pit bulls, bull dogs, Hovavarts...

Thank you again! Yes, my search for a club within 3 hours of me have so far been in vain. But i also am hoping that a local club may be of benefit to our local humane society in that the group might help potential adopters choose a dog or maybe we could even title foster dogs with a cd or bh & thus make them much more adoptable. Like most areas, we have a huge pit bull problem & it could end up being of great benefit to them. Maybe i'm dreaming big, but i think if i could organise a group of responsible dog lovers we would be able to really help our community. I also would like to eventually include akc titles & herding. It may be a good idea to start out as an akc obedience & agility type club & then move toward the advanced training. Any suggestions are very welcome! Thank you all so much & i will update with our progress! ~Krystin
