OK so new local groomer says my dog is a long hair GSD
Marco - http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/336294.html
I told her she was crazy he had a dual short coat no way was he a long hair and this is a long hair
GSD looked like http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/50752.html
Am I correct ???? I am asking because in her world its the difference of $75 for grooming.

by trysil on 25 January 2008 - 00:01
You are correct! Your dog is not a long hair GSD.
P.S. Get a new Groomer or do it your self! If there is a $75 DIFFERENCE then you are getting charged TOO MUCH for Grooming !!!

I agree, and $75. difference seems obscene, but I wouldn't try to argue the point with the groomer, it's her call, and even if she does back down, you don't want someone who already resents you to groom your dog. Go to someone else.

First off - very nice dog - very handsome
Nope - not a long hair. He seems to have what people call a "show coat". I have a coat - trust me- there's a biggg difference! $75 for grooming! Boy, am I in the wrong profession!

Looks like a plush german showline coat to me!

Well Normally I do do it myself. But on certain times of the year I go to a lady who has been grooming here since I was a kid. I love her but she is book up solid for months, anyway I am having surgery soon and my sister is going to be keeping Marco. I want to have him all nice and clean. I was told about this new lady in town and so I figured I would check her out got some references and talked to a few people who love her. Well when I went there she says oh he is a long hair GSD the price for long hair is $115 -She quoted me $40.
I told her she was a fruit loop and left. On the flip side thought a friend our usual groomer heard what happened and called me and is squeezing us in in the morning.. And she only charges $35 for full service and Marco loves her...
I will be the first to admit I don't know everything about GSDs but common sense is still common sense...

lmao. i have some pix of my dogs on here. see http.//www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/bulletins_read/120210.html and also for myspacers at www.myspace.com/nenznspunky a doctor the other day thought spunky was a longcoat just cause she got bushier this winter. her tail is nice and fluffy and her tummy is well-furred. boy some people are just ignorant. i even have a friend who told me the other day that there is no such thing as a long haired german shepherd. rotflmao.

That's about what I pay $35 for my guys. I too usually do it myself, but will treat them during the winter and I also had them groomed before I had surgery as well last year.

Oh, don't feel too bad, my last GSD, Link was a plush, very long hair on his ears. I told the groomer to cut the hair on his ears and she wouldn't, she said it was his personality. Now I have Drake, stock coat and when we take him for a bath she cuts his hair! My husband is the one who takes him, it's near his shop. I told him to tell her to BATHE him, period, don't cut or shave ANYTHING on him. She clips his underbelly and his pecker and it looks really stupid. BTW, she charges $35.
