In the United States, one can compete in one PHASE of Schutzhund, for example, just do a Tracking 1 or Obedience 1. Or one can do what is called a Schutzhund A that includes the obedience and protection, without the tracking. The dog must already have passed the BH in order to do any of this. Doing an OB 1 or TR 1 successfully means one can also then go on to do the next level, say a TR 2 and then a TR 3. But none of these, including the BH is considered a Schutzhund TITLE......

Doing it this way allows more people to participate who might not have the interest or a dog capable of doing a full Schutzhund trial.

Though (to make it even more clear) You can not do a stand alone protection title....only tracking and obedience, or as Hodie said a "schutzhund A".

Shasta is correct and thank you for the additional, and important, clarification.
