I would normaly keep my mouth shut. but this ad the sire of these puppies is OFA boarderline...WHAT????? The mother has NO OFA and if you look at the pedigree of the mother her mother is got VA before her name and i think that might be Imposible. Here is the link http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/classifieds/51524.html
All puppies are on full registration also... I do hope this was an mistake breeding..
If nothing elce do the hips please...

I saw that ad as well, but didn't notice the OFA Borderline due to not being interested right away to look in that much detail! Wow. Very sad...
I did notice the VA before on that dog and was a little confused, wondered if I was missing something. I'm still learning something new every day....

Just to clarify, I am new at putting dogs on the Database....
Cherokee had his Hips Checkes at 12 Mos, They sent Me back a Certificate, and it said Borderline, And Suggested I have his X-rays redone. I never felt the need to do so, as My Veternarian, whom I will give ANYONE who would like to speak to him advised Me that his hips were fine, And I would just be spending more unnecessary Money.
This is a Family here, Not a "Kennel"
By the Way
Cherokee is Now 10, And Runs, Jumps Plays Frisbee and Ball like any 6 month Old You have ever seen. He has never ever shown any sighns of hip displasia, and I wouldn't have allowed him to sire this litter if I thought for one minute he did.
His Mother Mesha is OFA good, I will add that for You. It was a long process learning to add My Dog, so Forgive Me if I don't get EVERYTHING first off.
As far as the VA On Iri's Mother, I am sure Kina's Owner would not have put it there if it werent so....
I did not put her here, She was already in this database.
I am new here, and would like to make Friends, and Learn, If My Putting My Pups here is a problem, I will take them down.
You have a nice evening, and thanks ever so much for the nice welcome.

brings up a lot of Whys? I did notice that she is a Bastin grand daughter...why again would anyone put ofa borderline on the pedigree ...evidently they dont know that that is a failure and that dog is not certified by OFA....hope they read all this...and learn.....His bloodline is Why also..??

by yellowrose of Texas on 21 January 2008 - 01:01
His hips are not passed and you should just remove the word borderline...His hips are not fine...Vets that dont respect ofa wow.....if the dogs hips were fine , you would have received a certificate with an ofa number...all you got was a piece of paper with the results on it...
Your female is not to be bred...by the Breed standard....And Sable dogs with a VA wonder what Judge did that... you might want to get further info.....and ask for the paper work from the show judge or the trial this dog got his VA from....I would...

Wow...sign me up for a pup!
I didn't know that if your dogs arent kennel dogs (as my dogs are also spoiled housepets and companions...no kennels here) they don't need OFA certifications or A Stamps to breed. German Shepherds are only ranked #38 on the OFA database for Hip Dysplasia....no big deal...eh? (Sarcasim here)
Board certified orthopedic specialists that evaluate the films ..........I would love to know the name of the Veterinarian that told the "breeder" that crap so I know where to stay FAR away from....being a Veterinarian Technician myself and true fan of the German Shepherd Breed.

Sounds to me like you need to find yourself a new vet that actually cares about the well being of the breed as opposed to you wasting his time and your money by actually certifying his hips at two years of age, as should be done with the breed here in the US. OFA does not certify any animal under 24 months of age. What you received was a prelim. Your vet should have advised you of that and suggested you redo the xrays at two years of age for actual certification. Any vet that doesn't is not one I'd want to be taking my animals to.

by yellowrose of Texas on 21 January 2008 - 02:01
And if your dog was not ofa after 12 months ,,he is actually prelimmed....not a full certification...
In other words , you are selling pups out of a male that is dysplastic...A dysplastic dog can run, jump and pull a trailer down a mountain a lot of times till they are 8 years old and never let you know they are bad...have you seen the xrays....
It is the genes you are passing on by breeding a dog that does not have a good or excellent OFA certification and a number....and even then we hold our breathes that one or more pups dont havae HD>
To breed the pair and one is already dysplastic , is not good....Yes, OFA does know what they are talking about...and that is why we send the xrays to them Many a vet has said oh these are good. only to get hit with a denial as yours got....Vets are not OFA experts....
It might have been , that if you did do the xrays over,,they might have come back a Fair at the best.....A dog has to be 24 months old before it can be certified.....we do this before we breed...
VA is a conformation and I never saw a sable with a VA as that is the top you can receive....show lines receive most of the V ratings....I m sure someone here .,,like DH OR Silbersee , or Louise can check the records and see what judge this dog got her VA under....would be nice to know..
A whole nother thread about Sables in the V or VA RATINGS ARE THERE MANY AND WHO?

I hear you April,
Sometimes the OFA doesn't pass the dog the first time around, and then it just seems
like they are looking for a little extra money......
I had a dog that I X-rayed 3 times by 3 different vets, that said the hips looked good, I am happy
with their conclusion, 3 vets can't be wrong...
Welcome to the database!
Your pups seem as though they are well loved, and their pedigree looked just fine to me,
there are alot of dogs listed in the pedigrees that have no hip rating, what so ever, so as far as
I am concerned, his boarderline hip rating, just meant that you needed to recheck them in 6 months,
or the vet took bad pictures.
