Somebody please tell me... Where have I gone wrong? Is it the muddy driveway? Cheap flooring? 11 yr. old Aerostar? WHAT?

It pays to advertise. Anyone care to guess what a full page/color in the Robb Report, Millionaire, Opulence, and the DuPont Registry costs?
Honey, I'm selling the house to promote the same dogs as this guy does to a higher demographic audience. A few dozen dogs "custome selected" for placement in the "right" homes and we can make the down payment on that waterfront estate in Newport we paid $35. each to tour on our vacation last summer.

The TV segway on Britney Spears' 2 protection-trained GSD's, like total bargains man, at a mere $30,000. each, is a DO NOT MISS:

I'm so depressed. Time to put the dogs in their crates in the basement and go to bed. Maybe the Lord will come to me in a dream and tell me how to sell a long-coated German Shepherd for roughly the same price as that new Ford Expedition EXT in the showroom window down on Rt. 443.
Sniff.

Shelley,
Just post an ad just like this one that has appeared today.....and then be sure to include a photo of the dog with a rope of yellow nylon around the neck....makes me want to run right out and breed my females to this dog......NOT. As for the other link to the fancy website, well, people are simply amazing what they do with "credentials".

So much for schutzhund being a largely amateur sport. This is the same Howie Rodriguez that was Captain of the USA World Team. This is also the same Howie Rodriguez who distributed a video which was instrumental in the suspension of the judging license of USA Vice President Randall Hoadley.

Hey guys, Howie does run a first rate facility there at cal k9. I have worked there...not the easiest place in the world to work, but the facility matches the clientelle he aims for, and he does take care of his own. He may be involved in the schutzhund "political arena" and all that, but nobody can say his facility isn't top notch, and if they do, it's simply because they're jealous. He makes money, and he spends it. I've seen other "trainers" make the money and then NOT put it back into his dogs. Howie does put the money back into his facility, his dogs and the care of his place. I don't always agree with him on EVERYTHING, but I would never knock his business. And he sells what people can handle.

Louise,
What was supposedly on that video? I heard the judging license was suspended, but no one said why. Must have been some serious stuff...or....?
As for the ads, interesting as I had a call a few months ago from a woman who owned a "protection" trained dog from one of the big protection training kennels in the Carolinas. Apparently, the dog was Czech, and the owners never received any training on how to deal with the dog. The dog did fine and was a much loved "pet". Recently the female owner was out walking the dog when one of her female neighbors jumped a small fence saying "Hey, wait for me. I want to walk with you" and as she was running up to the woman and her dog, the dog who was leashed lept up and seriously bit the woman in the throat. To make a long story short, I was contacted in hopes that I would take the dog and place it or agree to keep it for life. The local authorities told the owners that they were going to ask for the dog to be put down. Then, the local authorities "arranged" for one of their police officers to "accept" it so it could be bred and make him some money. In the meantime, the original owner is now being sued in court, despite having paid, on a prior friendly basis, all incurred medical bills.
I just love firms that advertise huge, 110 pound, panting, devil one minute, snuggly bear the next type GSDs. Does the breed good. There are no ethics involved in breeding or anything else related to GSDs I fear. But at least the fancy ads spelled German Shepherd correctly....and don't have nylon ropes around the neck of the dog.

and by the way, his facility didn't START out that way...he worked to make it that way, and took the money he made and MADE it into what it is. If you've visited any time recently, it's turned gorgeous. But it wasn't always. It is a tribute to what he has been able to make of the place.

Anything that I would say would be regarded as "hearsay". Apparantly, the video was not of recent vintage. As I recall, there were other issues involving the handling of reimbursement for expenses. There was a heated discussion on the USA-GSD Yahoo list subsequent to the suspension by the Judges' Committee. This matter was not treated as a BOI matter.
When I read of it, I felt very grateful to have showlines and not to be caught up in a political powerplay amongst the folks with sportsdogs.
