We just received our clubs 2008 insurance renewal.  The premium went up $125 to a whopping $650. USA is seeing a decline in clubs and I'm afraid there will be many that won't be able to keep up.   We now have the added expense of helper evaluations and there appears to be little to no support from USA for Education. But Hey, lets throw more money into a useless registration. and its operating costs? Before we get all caught up in the '08 events, someone should make a motion to no longer require USA registration for our National Events. Madigan

wow, Diane.. any reason given for such a huge premium increase.?. in a really small club like the one I belong to, most of our members are under 21 so an increase like that will eventually hurt the adults who have to cover most of the financial stuff......

I'm not sure of the answer ....... surely a couple of areas to look at and revamp, like you said

For anyone who has CAREFULLY read Sportsman's policies, you would find they are ABSOLUTELY worthless for the most part. And yes, they are very, very expensive in the meantime. Small clubs simply cannot afford to pay such premiums, especially when it covers almost nothing. I read the policy we had carefully and talked with these people by phone and a private attorney also looked it over.  After doing so, we realized I was paying $850 annually for nothing.  I decided the policy was worthless and the attorney concurred.

I agree 100% with Diane about the registry. It was ill-conceived and pushed through by a small group of people who THINK a USA piece of paper will mean something to someone. It won't mean squat to the average person. Try this. Go stand at the local PetSmart and as people exit ask them if their dog is AKC registered. If they say yes, ask them what that means. Most prapbably won't even know what the initials stand for. Then, regardless of those answers, ask them, if they have a working breed, if they participate in any working sport. Ask them if they know who United SchH Clubs, DVG or any other organization is. Ask them if they know about the registry our organization started.....get my drift? You will find that almost all of them know nothing about this matters, and further, they won't care.

It is indeed the clubs, especially the small clubs who continue to loose. It is the small clubs who pay full dues and get nothing in return. Some, like us, even have to pay for our helper work. The organization has repeatedly talked, through its' officers, about helping clubs.....We are still waiting.

If you stick to the posting topic of sportsmen's maybe there can be some sort of cooperation and unionization.

Sportsmen's is the only game in town (Hannover Insurance via the Sportsmen's Agency). They know this. Hartford no longer offers this kind of insurance.

If you need a certificate to prove you have insurance with them it is now 50$, also an increase.

Either all the clubs should band together and try to find an alternative or the prices will keep going up. We are screwed.

All clubs should provide information about reporting loses and what type of coverage was provided actually. If few clubs report losses, why the increase? This is just an out of control money machine.
