I feed a glucosamine and chondroitin supplement designed for humans. It is not marine or bovine based and is in HCI rather than KCI format. Along with this I give MSM.
I feed garlic daily, Fish Body Oils, Natural Vitamin E and Vitamin C, plus Borage Oil.
They also get a supplement containing kelp and alfalfa plus probiotics

I really like the Wholestic Pet Run Free formula as a joint suplement.

I was just going to mention I was speaking with a veterinary nutritionist yesterday who said that many companies use garlic because it often adds palatability but that given in too much it is toxic and should be use wisely if at all. I feed a good food, add Dr. Harvey's Health and shine oil that has borage oil, etc etc....and I have signed up as a rep for vetraceuticals (my site is www.vetrawithbtk9.com if anybody wants to check it out...yes that could be considered an advertisement but I'm not doing it to advertise, I'm doing it to tell you guys about it) It has enzymes, probiotics, antioxidants, and vitamins in it. The vet I spoke with yesterday said there's not the calcium or whatnot to throw off the calcium/phosphorous ratio...the reason I like it is because it seems to be an all in one type product. Even has spirulina, fish oils, coenzyme Q10, kelp, etc etc etc. I have a friend whose dogs are on it and they're doing fantastic. My dogs have just started so we'll see...but the ingredient list looks fantastic. For joints it has: Hydrolyzed bovine collagen, which is supposed to nourish cartilage in joints and aid with arthritis. It is high in glycosaminoglycans which can help repair joints, and contains hyaluronic acid which is a component of healthy joints. (yes I did get that from the company website). I've talked to 2 different vets now, and had a friend talk to a third, and all have said the ingredient list looks wonderful (though we all know that unless they're a veterinary nutrionist they may not know anything about nutrition of course). But I like what I see a lot (I don't associate my name with anything unless I DO like it alot of course).

A dog would have to eat a whole lot of garlic for it to be toxic.
A clove a day is not too much. I feed fresh garlic not because it is a flavour enhancer but because it is a proven antiseptic, antibiotic, antivermifuge etc et
